| Roxy has Collapsing Trachea. I try to keep her as calm as can be. Lately she has been doing that Goose Honk everyday. When she went in for her luxating patella surgery the Specialist did a chest x-ray to see how bad. The x-rays showed no collapse in a relaxed mode, which is good, but again, Roxy is honking everyday. I think she has allergies, so I am wondering if this is causing her to honk more often now??? You can ask me anything but I am very new to Trachea Collapse as well. |

| Hi Nicole, TJ and Roxy Thank you so much for responding, since I haven't been able to talk with anyone that has a yorkie or any breed that has collapsing trachea, this will be helpful to get to talk with you. What I am wondering is, does Roxy cough all the time, constantly when she is walking, constantly when she is lying down, sometimes not ever being able to stop? Does Roxy get a lot of mucus in her throat, or sounding like it is in her nose? Does she go through periods where she doesn't want to eat? How old is Roxy, and how long has she had collapsing trachea? My little amy baby has all these symptoms and much much more, nowhere we've been, ehich is a lot of places even out of state, has given us answers as to whether Amy has Kennel cough along with Collapsing trachea, or if the trachea on an Xray looks like a collapsing trachea just because of inflammation because of kennel cough, etc There are I am sure very sophisticated tests they can do at universitys, but she is 14 years old, and it has not been recommended. So our hope has been to find someone like yourself that has a baby going through collapsing trachea as well, to see if any of these symptoms are common, Amy baby has had this for a while now, her mucus is in her nose and throat, and sounds like when a person has a sinus infection, and bronchitis. Antibiotics have not helped her, I have tried them all. Benadryl did work once, but never did again. So we are still researching to try to help her. Anything that you can share of what Roxy goes through would be ever so helpful to know. Thanks, Rachel and Amy baby |

| Rachel, Roxy doesn't seem to have the mucus. She will make that Goose Honk everyday and it could be in any circumstance. She could be all excited, or she could just be walking around minding her own business, or we could be in bed and out of the blue she does it. I try to kinda sorta yell Roxy to snap her out of it and at the same time I will start to rub her neck/chest area and pick her up. TJ will help out too, when he hears her honking, he will run to her try to bit at her face and/or neck to get her to stop it, it is really cute! As far as the eating, she has NO problem, she loves to eat. Roxy will be 2 years old on 11/24. I very first time I heard her do this she was around 1 year old (give or take). She would make a honk or two at night, either she would be playing or just walking around. Then it started to happen more and more often, then it started to happen only when I came home from work and she was extremely excited to see me, or if I would play just with her and she would roll all around and onto her back for belly rubs (still in excite mode) she would start honking... So I started to try really, really hard NOT to excite her or stress her. Big problem because she has extreme anixety. Anyway, when she went for her consultation at the Orth Specialist for her LP, I told her about the honks. The Dr. press her throat and low and behold, Roxy started to honk. So the Dr. confirmed my fears. And then they did the x-ray because they wanted to make sure everything was ok for the LP surgery, etc...The x-ray didn't show anything, but then again, Roxy was in relax mode, the Dr. said that they didn't take an x-ray with her in the collapsing state (I dunno why). So everyday is just try to keep her calm, but she will still do it when she is calm. I go back for Roxy's 2nd LP surgery 11/20, so I am going to talk further with the Dr. about how and when Roxy honks. Sorry, that I can not be much more help. I do hope you find some answer for your baby. Yorkietalk is a great place for information. Did you do a 'search' here on the YT board for Collapsing Trachea??? |

| Hi Nicole, Thank you for sharing about Roxy, this really helps to know the common symptoms with Collapsing Trachea. Amy has never "Goose Honked", she only has ever coughed and coughed, she has never quit coughing except when I give her the horrible hydrocodone they had given me a long time ago to give her. With that she always has a mucus problem and at times it becomes extreme and she falls very ill. Antibiotics after antibiotics, never any results. Thank you too for suggesting to search on the board for Collapsing Trachea, we did and found many posts that help. We are becoming more suspicious that Amy has been misdiagnosed. We are saddened with all this time that has passed and all that she has suffered because of it, we have been through so much of bad experiences with Vets and all, and she is so very tiny and precious. Now we are looking more into Kennel Cough, and we are going to try a formula that has been found to be successful in treating Kennel Cough with many dogs. Thank you again Rachel and Amy |

| Collapsed Trachea I am dealing with this issue with Gizmo. He is 13yrs old and has had this problem a little over a year. There is not much we can do but try to keep him calm. At night, we have a sedative that we give him so he can sleep. On top of this, he is blind. My husband and I just do all that we can to try to keep him comfortable. He is such a sweet dog and I have had him since he was 2mos old. Some people tell us that we should have him put to sleep, but we are just not ready to do that yet. Hang in there and just do your best to keep them comfortable.

| Tilly has had this problem ever since she was 7 months old. it happend when she had her surgery...the tube they used caused the problem SO she has been coughing now for 13 years although over the years it became worse with age, when she starts to cough I pat her on her back and I think it seems to reasure her but it seems to help? The Vet told me a collasped trachea is simular as paper straw that has collasped from over use. and I just try to keep her quiet but when sami plays with her and she gets excited, she will cough alot then she seems to calm down when I pat her?
