poor diddy hi everyone just wanted to share what happened to diddy this past week at my local petsmart. first of all i enrolled him in a puppy training class which started last sunday. on friday, the trainer told me to feed him for the last time on saturday morning at 11 am and not to feed him since he will get treats that sunday at 3 pm. i was really concerned and he assured me that it would be ok and all the dogs would be going through the same thing and would be really anxious for treats in class. i knew i shouldn't have listened. poor diddy was so skinny and hungry. in class he received many treats (pupperoni) and i knew that wouldn't be good for a little 2 pound 8 oz puppy especially when he hasn't eaten. well, the next day he was sick with diarrhea and was throwing up. poor little guy. he got over it the next day with the help of a little rice and all hard food. then the second incident occurred yesterday when i brought him to get groomed there as well. since he had a lot of matts they had to shave him. i got a call from the groomer letting me know she had a difficult time with diddy since he is a hyper puppy and she accidently cut him in the next. she said it was an abrasion and wasn't bleeding. she apologized and told me that i need to train the dog since he was so hyper and didn't respond well to her. i spent the whole afternoon waiting for diddy since he was taken to the vet at petsmart. petsmart apologized and told me that i wouldn't have to pay for anything. the doctor gave me two options a suture however he would have to administer anesthia or they would apply a medical glue that would heal the cut. i chose option two since diddy is only 4 months old and i was scared something could go wrong. he's doing fine now. however, they weren't done with his cut and he has full hair on his paws and face but is shaved down all over. i spoke to the manager today and he apologized and told me i could take him back for free so they could finish the grooming. i took diddy back. he was so traumatized. i felt so bad for him. he was shaking. however, i have to bring him back in a week due to the vet's reccomendation because of the glue. i hope he will be ok when he goes back. he is so smart he knows the surroundings and remembers what happened. i take him back to puppy class today too. i hope he will be alright.

Aww! Poor Diddy!!! Give him lots of hugs and love at home so he feels safe. Perhaps be there with him during any training or any grooming? They really shouldn't be without food that long. Treats are treats, and Diddy should respond to treats even if he has some food in his stomach! Take care! Maybe go to another Petsmart or Petco instead of the one you currently go to next time?

Ah ! He's only a baby! If I was you I wouldn't take him back to the groomer EVER or to puppy class either (not without feeding him first anyway). Maybe you could have a go at grooming him yourself? He's not going to forget this experience in a hurry, poor little boy. Maybe you can find a groomer that is recommended by someone you trust? Give him loads of hugs, sure you already have?! Ana xx

| Poor Diddy!!! I would never take him back to that PetSmart! I have never heard of withholding their food unless it is vet instructions!! Their blood sugar drops and they get faint. Hardly good preparation for a training class! And the groomer shaved him and cut him? I would have been furious! I would take that baby to my own vet to be checked! I can imagine how devistated you must be! Yorkies are hyper babies ... I thought people who dealt with them would be experienced enough to deal with the different personalities. I am so sorry you had such a horrible experience. Please keep us updated on Diddy's progress!!

I sure do agree with Ana!!! DON'T TAKE HIM ANYWHERE NEAR THAT PLACE! Ask around for a really good groomer who is really nice to his/her clients. Accidents do happen. Higgins is not good with our groomer and she has nicked him with the scissors, but we couldn't find it. However, you certainaly didn't deserve a lecture about how this was supposed to be a puppy all trained for grooming! And I just don't think puppy classes are the place for Yorkies. Our little guys are just toooooo small. All it takes is one out-of-owners-control big puppy to injure a little guy in a flash. Yorkies are so smart that they will repsond to patient training at home. I would tell PetSmart that you want to take your little one to another groomer and another vet, and that you would appreciate their paying for it. If they refuse, do it anyway....take Diddy somewhere else that is safer and less traumatizing for him.

Yes, one groomer cut Yoda's ear a bit, thankfully it was okay. I think self-training is best if you can, buy book, or get some dog training books from the library, or ask away at places like here...

My gosh, I have gromed chester my self and never cut him or niped him once. I can't belive they are suppost to be professionals . And I think her comment to you about training your dog was rude. She is supost to have skills to calm him or soth him if they are excited. I'm really disapointed in pet smart. I actually was thinking of bringing chester there. Now I'm worried. I would have given that women a peace of my mind. I hope diddy is doing ok. Poor thing,

Poor Diggy I would think any 4 month old puppy would be active not hyper. He is a puppy. Rudy was like that but has command down around 9 months but still is a hand full. I take my two to PetCo. I give them a bath at home and then take them to get what Petco calls a quick cut. I stay there and when she is cutting one I walk around the store with the other. I call and always go when the same groomer is there. I have been real please with the groomer there. I would like others have posted take him to my vet and find another groomer that has more experience with a puppy. Hope Higgy feels better real soon...............Cindy

I dunno about the people cutting hair at Petco and Petsmart professionals. They really don't get paid that much and I believe they only go to school for a little bit before getting hired. Sometimes we are better off doing it ourselves, because we would be so more cautious and caring about it.

diddy is doing better. i brought him to class on sunday and he was ok. the only thing was that a big boxer in class almost jumped on him. poor little guy. thank goodness he didn't though. i'm bringing diddy back for grooming on friday. this time the salon manager who has 10 years experience will finish his haircut. i will be there so that diddy will feel better since i am around. i am crossing my fingers that everything goes well. i know he is still traumatized. i hope he will be ok.

That is quite a haircut on poor Diddy. I am glad he is doing better. Just remember the next time someone wants you to do something with your Diddy that you are not comfy with, most likely it isn't a good thing and you should NOT go through with it. We are at times too trust worthy on others and don't give ourselves enough credit in making the right choices. Next time, trust your own judgement. And most likely Diddy will be happier!! I have learned the hard way before too, now I question everything when it comes to Schatzie. Even trusting my own vet, I still question somethings if I am not comfy. I would never go back to those places ever again, ever!!!

Hair or no hair, he is still your sweet and lovable Diddy. His hair will grow back before you know it. They have that Yorkie spirit that is hard to break. Glad to hear he is doing good When I take my two I bath them before we go so all that the groomer does is trim them up. I walk around in the store with one while the other is getting groomed. It works out great for me that way they don't have to stay in the kennel. Rudy hates to be kenneled up. I don't know why he never has been in one, I think it is just his personality ha! I always make sure the same groomer is there and they seem to remember her............Cindy

I'm taking my Yorkie to The Petsmart puppy classes in about 2 months so I'm glad you wrote that. It must really do a number on such a small dog to go without food so I wont listen to them if they tell me to starve him. *hugs to Diddy and you*
