| What age to spay a Yorkie Hi, I need some advise on the correct age to spay a male Yorkie. I don't want to do it too soon! I also had some questions on heart worm. What brands do most of you use and what is the dosage? Thanks, Lisa |

| You dont spay a male you neuter him. You spay females. I got my male neutered at 6 months but some people do it earlier than that and some people do it later than that. I got his retained baby teeth pulled at the same time so he didnt have to go under anestha twice. I give Mine Heartquard heartworm medicine. You give them 1 tablet a month

| I neutered Piccolo when he was 9 m old because I was waiting for his baby teeth to fall out. He still had 4 left, though, and they pulled them out. I use Revolution. It's not a pill, you just squeez a tube between his shoulder bones.

| Both my males were neutered at 6 mos., as per my vet's advice. But it wasn't a moment too soon, since they both started 'marking' about a week before their 6 month birthday. Since neutering, neither has lifted their leg in the house. I use Heartguard Plus for heartworm. It's given once a month.

| My vet said to spay Gracie before she goes into her first heat, to lower the risk of her getting mammary cancer later. Given her size, my vet suggested at around 6-7 months of age. I plan to do it mid-December. She now weighs 4 lbs., 9 ounces.

| Shylah gets spayed this thursday! Shylah will be 7 months on November 5th. I am getting her spayed this Thursday the 2nd. I am starting to get really nervous. I hope everything goes okay. She only weighs a little over 3 lbs! Keep your fingers crossed, she'll be okay.

| heartworms We reccomend Revolution at work cause it covers al lot more than just heartworms. It covers fleas and ticks as well, and more important even is ear mites which is no fun for any dog. And this way you don't have to remember to do frontline and give a heartworm med every month. One product takes care of it all!!!!

| 6 months 6 months is recommended because at that time the grown-up teeth should be in and the remaining puppy teeth can be pulled by the vet while he's under. Our's was just(a few weeks ago) neutered he was just under 8 months. The vet said it was a bit late only because he had double teeth and the adult teeth were pushed a little out of postion. BTW: I read around six months in "The Yorkshire Terrier", book by Deborah Wood. Good luck!

| I use Heartguard Plus -- it comes in both chewables and a small tablet. We use the tablet. It is sold based on weight. When we finish the supply we have of them, we are going to switch to Revolution. That will allow us to skip the expensive Frontline Plus (for flea and ticks). I think Revolution is the only one that includes Ticks. We tried Sentinel and I know it does not help for ticks as my little one brought in two in one week! I never even knew we had ticks in the yard before that! Your vet can probably tell you when is best to neuter your particular dog. Some mature faster than others, some may have teeth growing at different rates, size and overall health is also a consideration.
