| How to switch food Tomarrow Rocky's starting on Royal Canin and I was wondering how much to give him at first, like how much of the new food mixed with the old, and how much I gradually decrease the old food. Does anyone know this, or know of any sites? I have a book on Yorkies and it's in the book, but I can't find it Any help is appreciated!

| I would love to help but I still don't have it down pat. Diesel still has loose stools when I switch food. So I would love to know the proper way as well.

| I havn't switched Grayson yet but I plan to, now when I did my cats I would add just a little bit of the new food, the next day add a little more and so forth until it is mostly new food. If there is a proper way I would love to know!

My furkids Donating Member | I would take whatever you have left of the old food and mix equal parts of the new food...feed her that until it is gone..then just feed the new food. This is what I did.....but, Sadie would pick out the new food and leave the old..she is a very picky eater though...

| Pete does the same thing, when I mix his food he just ends up eating all the new and the old pebbles end up all over the kitchen floor! So in the end mixing may not be succesfull no matter what you try Usually with Pete Ill just slowly mix in more food each day gradually for about a week and it seems to be fine, even though most of the old ends up on the ground what a stinker |

| I am going to switch Monday from California Natural dry lamb to California Natural dry Chicken .... I am going to do it as you all said. mix it half and half ... but I need to smash up the kibbles for her to eat it .... So I shall see if her little bitty nose can really separate the new from the old .....

| Loki had terrible diarrhea when I changed his food the first time, so when we made our last switch to Canidae here is how I successfully did it. (Thank goodness we love the Canidae!) I took 10 ziplock bags and a magic marker and wrote the numbers 1-10 on them. Loki gets 1/2 cup a day split into two meals, so I did about a 10% switch each day. I sat and measured out each one all at once. (You kind of eyeball it - no I didn't measure out by tablespoon or anything.) ANYWAY then I just opened a new bag every day. I did this so that I wouldn't be tempted to switch any faster, since doing it over 4 days (1/4 new 3/4 old, 1/2 new 1/2 old, etc.) made him very sick. I know it sounds tedious, but it worked!!! You could probably change this to 5 or 6 days successfully. By the way, RC has corn in it. If you're going to switch can you try a better food? I know not everyone has specialty stores and can get all of the good foods and RC is better than the other "pet store" brands. But his Canidae is like $6 for a 5 pound bag that lasts like 6 weeks. For no corn and no by-products. I think that's a good deal!
