| Could wet food cause upset tummy? Hey everyone, have a quick question regarding the puppy food. Nemo has been eating a mix of dry and wet food for over a month now. He started with the Merricks dry food but there came a time he just stopped eating it altogether and we switched him to the Innova. He liked that one but we did notice that he was very itchy after the switch so we switched him yet again to the Wellness dry food to go along with the Wellness wet food he's been eating all along. Everything was fine and dandy until Wednesday when he picked at his food in the morning and barely ate any at all. I didn't think much of it since he can be such a picky eater at times but I got a little worried when he finally ate a little bit at night and proceded to throw up. Next morning the same thing happened so we boiled some rice and chicken for him in the evening and he was a-okay with that. He had a vet appt. on Friday so I decided to try just the dry food and there was no problem with that so I did the same in the evening. The vet said he was probably eating too fast and it was upsetting his stomach and that I should really worry if he started throwing up constantly and got mopey which thankfully hadn't happened, he's been as playful as ever. Anyway, I stuck to the dry food again this morning and had no problem so I added the wet food this evening. As soon as he ate it he threw it up so I'm thinking it's the wet food for sure. I'm just wondering what the problem could be as he's been eating the same wet food since we started feeding him with no problem. I checked the expiration date again just to be sure I hadn't picked up a bad batch by mistake but all of them have the same expiration date of March 2009. Could they become allergic to the food? He's perfectly fine and quite hungry to boot so we're just boiling up more chicken and rice for him now but I was just wondering if anybody else had had the same prob. |

| That does seem odd. I have no suggestions, except to maybe try a different brand. I give mine one tablespoon of pedigree morning and evening, and they free feed on Royal Canine . |

| I would stick with ONE kibble. Puppies have sensitive stomachs and dry food is going to give him the most consistent diet. We found that Loki was more able to tolerate variations in his diet after he was about a year old. Now he gets some Merrick canned food, but it makes him gassy and his poop gets softer. The dry food is definately the best for his stomach. Just pick a good one, which you are. Loki didn't like the wellness or innova. We ended up with Canidae. And he'd get sick every time I tried to switch him (VERY SLOWLY) even on the high quality foods. Only when we started the Canidae did he stop having diarrhea. You just have to carefully plug away until you find a good one. If he was doing well on the Merrick but "lost interest" you can try putting broth on it or just take it away after 20 mins if he doesn't eat it. Next time he will eat, I guarantee it! Good luck!

| i have a question to ask too..... before tara was home with me, she was fed with eukunuba by the breeder and she seems ok with it but the major problem here is i didn't know she was fed with eukunuba so when i brought her home i fed her on nutro puppy choice lamb n rice, after 3 hours she had diarrhea for the whole day, i got worry and send her back to the breeder, it took her 1 week to recover as the breeder gradually change her food to nutro( well u might have know bout this story as i have posted it b4) but recently she is on food strike.... doesn't want to it on her nutro food!!!! imagine for 1 week i try to feed her, treat her like a small baby yet she wont open her mouth, i got so worry for her n so angry i got her glucose water in case your sugar level drop, she loves it n kept drinking on the water.... and no doubt she is having diarrhea again... everynight i have to wake up just to make sure she is ok... some time i even stared at her tummy just to make sure she is breathing... cuz she is so tiny n looked so fragile damn!!!!! at last i have no choice i bought her can food which is science plan, immediately she will wash up her bowl!!! so tht was a relieve night for me to sleep after 2 weeks awake to make sure she is ok... the next day i consulted my breeder he says do not feed her solely on can food it's no good for her... so i try to mix it with her nutro again for the 1st few meal she took it unwillingly, yet she is smart she try to choose the can food to eat n leave the dog kibble out... as she has no choice i smash up the kibble to smaller pieces... till yesterday.... she just wont eat the mixture with can food n the kibble.... so i have no choice again.... i fed her solely on can food now... she is satisfied with it but i am seriously not... cuz i know it's not a good diet for her... at the moment i have no choice but to feed her solely on can food 1st cuz she will need to take her 2nd jab on the 15/11 if i dont feed her on can food she just wont eat.... very very very stubborn little girl!!! just like me!!! i told my mum.. must be god send her to punish me being stubborn to my mum so now i have to tolerate with her subborness!!!! alright after such a long story my major question is how am i suppose to change her diet back to kibble it self only currently she is only 11 weeks... i've tried giving her condense milk yet she dont like it... and after her jab i will get her either pro plan or innova.... as in malaysia it's hard to get a good dog food... cuz u can hardly find a yorkshire in malaysia as well.... how am i suppose to maintain a healthy diet for her??? |

| She could be teething.....puppies tend to go off their kibbles when their teeth are bothering them.

| I agree, she is still so young and tiny. The most important thing right now is that she eats, later you can try to introduce the dry food again. I have 2 very stubborn pickery eaters too! Right now, for their AM meal, I must 'hammer' up their dry food (Blue Buffalo and Chicken Soup for Dog Lover's) then I mixed a tiny bit of fancy/fine shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese (very small amount) and then I put some tiny (almost shredded) pieces of boiled chicken pieces...mix that all up and put it in the dish/bowl and then as a topper, I have to cut up pieces of their chicken jerky and put a few on top to entice them to eat this gourmet meal I just created...ha-ha-ha-ha... They amaze me! Their favorite snacks are....cut up pieces of raw/fresh green beans and romaine lettuce...go figure, they have NO PROBLEM eating veggies! |
