Yorkie sick I just found out yesterday morning that my 2 1/2 pound 4 year old Yorkie has kidney failure. I have her blood tests and I wasn't able to go to the vet with my husband to ask questions so I have lots more. I don't know what some of these terms mean and I have been on the internet searching for over 4 hours and our local library. You gave a high number in your thread. Brittney's BUN level is 130 which the vet said is high. Her CREA is 3.7 and her PHOS is 13.6. Can you relate any of these figures do your dog? She seems fine right now but last night was the second night I was up with her all night. Night before last she had trouble breathing and last night she was jerking her head and very weak. She ate her breakfast this morning which included medicine from the VET - Epakitin. Does anybody have any advice or know what is going on? THANK YOU.

With the high phosphorous levels it may be Addison's disease - it is often mistaken for kidney failure. Here's a link to that condition and it is fairly easy to treat. Did your vet mention doing further testing for Addison's? http://www.vetrica.com/care/dog/addisons.shtml

I was reading up on Epitakin - it looks like it is basically calcium carbonate which will bind up the phosphorus in her system which in turn will put less stress on her kidneys.

| My heart brakes for you and your little one First of all I'm so sorry and I most certainly can feel your pain and fear. My Yorkie has other health issues, but until it was under control it was like 2 yrs of touch and go. I was worst then you because I was in the room with the vet and I would just go death and mute and would just cry, I never asked questions I didn't know what questions to ask other then "Will she live?". I still ask very little at the vets office but 2 or 3 days later I have a list when I call him. We or at least me em not a vet, tech or work with vet, so of course we don't know test results or terms if we did we wouldn't be paying for his new car...lol So look make a long list of question on paper and leave space to write down his answer and later if you still have questions call him again. If he doesn't give you any hope I would get a second opinion and take the test results with you for them to compare. Look at questions people here ask you and write them down. My Q. for your vet is : Can a change in diet help? I hope your little one gets well soon and keep us update.

hi, i was reading your post and couldnt help but let you know what helped oscar and I. I also had kidney failure and oscar had so many health problems it wasnt funny. well i started into chiropractic and after being treated for a few months...my kidneys had started to regenerate themselves and now i have zero problems. oscars story is similiar but i dont want to freak you out with this as most people think that its stupid and crazy and anything short of medicine and vets is subpar and not going to work. but i had to let you know that i believe with chiropractic and a good diet that your puppy's health can change. please just let me know if you would like the information. i would be happy to look for a qualified chiropractor in your area (there are many different kinds so its important that you go to a wellness chiropractor.). i wish all the best to you and your baby.
