Teeth cleaning? The vet just suggested that Mia (our 1.5 yr old yorkie) needs a teeth cleaning. She is an avid chewer, & I thought it sounded a little early to get this done, but wanted to check with the experts ( you guys!!!)!! He also suggested that she be sedated when they do it (she gets very anxious at the vet) How soon did you get your yorkie's teeth cleaned, & what do you think about the sedation? Thanks a bunch! |
I doubt your vet would suggest it if he didn't feel it wasn't necessary... He's seen her teeth, we have not.... Take a look at 'em. If you see any yellow or brown build up, a cleaning may be a good idea. Poor dental hygine can lead to other health problems down the road. I don't think it's surpising to need a cleaning after just a year and a half. Some dogs just have more dental problems than others. My parent's beagle, for instance, goes for a cleaning once a year, but it off any longer and her teeth get absolutely nasty. Do you brush your pup's teeth? Spending a few minutes a few times a week brushing her teeth yourself can delay costly vet cleanings and will benefit your pup in other ways as well. As far as sedation... I don't think it's possible to do a good cleaning without anesthesia. Putting them under gives them a chance to *really* get in there and check things out. |
Thanks Kelly V- you answered the questions I wasn't quite sure about. Mia is my first dog, & I wasn't sure if this was common or not. Thanks again for your suggestions... greatly appreciated. |
forget it My yorkie issabella had the worse plaque when I got her I got petzlife in 1 month her teeth is spotless 20 dollars a bottle lasts 6months |
What is pezlife, what does it do, and where do you get if from? |
petzlife Its a all natural teeth cleaner for pets you can get in spray or gel its the greatest thing for pets teeth go tp www.petzlife.com to order |
I also use the Petzlife Life for Teeth spray and my almost 2 year old has no tartar whatsoever. I don't brush  but I do feed mainly dry food. I have also been using it on one I got as an adult with tons of tartar and her teeth have improved dramatically. I am still planning on taking her in since she also still has baby teeth that need to be removed :( , but it did definitely help and with continued use I feel it probably would avoid the cleaning all together, if not for the retained baby teeth needing to be pulled. |

amazing. I just ordered the product based on your post. my parent's girl yorkie will not allow to brush teeth. I tried brushing since she was a pup, and she always bit me. now she's 4 and she makes the rules....not me..the human. I have too many bite marks on my hands just from trying to clean her ears from infection...I don't want anymore from her brushing her teeth too. |
Anyone know if we can use this on the puppies? 2 1/2lbs. Kim |
Thanks for the link. I really need the spray. I bought a toothpaste and a brush from the vet but Piccolo won't let me brush his teeth. How do you do it? Any tips? |

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered some also. I was very impressed that they didn't pop you with insane amounts of "shipping & handling" fees. It's nice to know there are some honest people out there. |
So I got the petzlife bottle today and i sprayed it once in each of my dog's mouth. They didn;t like it to much. Do you spray it on the teeth or in the mouth and it distributes itself thorougout the mouth?? It would be hard to hit every tooth. Also, I don';t know if its good for them cuz after i sprayed it....my little boy Teddy came and licked me on my face and my lips...and I guess we had some saliva exchange cuz i tasted a bit of a harsh chemical....and it made my teeth feel very sensitive. I wonder if the dogs' teeth feeel sensitive after this product and that is why it cleans so well??? I just don't want to hurt my doggies. ANyone tasted the product on thier own teeth???? Yeah i know it's dumb but I even tasted dry dog food before as a bet with my sister. If it's safe for dogs, it should be safe for humans. |
probably grapefruit Its all natural the grapefruit will make teeth feel that way |
Do you all use the spray or gel? Which is easiest, and cheapest? |
