| Sexyman and table food Hi! Sexyman Eat What I Eat. He Will Eat Ukanumba Dry Food When I Refuse To Give Him Table Food, But Only Because He's So Hungry, Realizing He's Not Getting Any Table Food. I Rather Give Him Table Food, But If Its Not Good For Him, I'd Rather Not. So, Is Table Food Okay? Last edited by lisagillum; 09-27-2004 at 05:14 PM. |

| I suggest you don't give Sexyman any food that you eat. We feed Yoda steamed chicken (without any flavoring) and Royal Canin 28 dry food. It's hard to resist their temptations, but human food in general (at least the stuff we eat) is not good for them long-term. Just think about their health long-term and how they will live longer lives eating healthier food for them. Some members here have trained their Yorkies to stay in their own area when they eat. After they are finished, they call their Yorkie and feed him. |

| Welcome to YT, lisagillum! We too had problems with our Toto only wanting human food. She wasn't feeling well, so our vet said it was OK to cook her a little ground turkey breast & lean ground beef with no seasoning and to try a little pasta, veggies, etc. also with no seasoning. We read everything we could find about what was OK for them to have ... NO onion or spices! She gobbled it up ... so ... we kept giving it to her! We added a little sour cream, parm cheese, yogurt ... anything safe! It made her gain weight [too much] and we got a severe scolding from our vet!! She very strongly suggested that we really get tough with her and quit giving her human food ... only offer her dog food ... she didn't eat anything for about 3 days until she realized that was all she was getting. It worked!! We gave her Nutri-Cal [vet formula] to make sure she was getting vitamins and plenty of calories and she is still doing fine! The main reason we endured this and stuck to our guns, eating correctly while they are young and not being too fat will really help them when they get older with the various health problems that can plague Yorkies!! Toto eats Natural Balance [comes in a roll like sausage]. I give her about 1 Tablespoon of the Natural Balance twice a day ... I chop it in tiny pieces and sometimes mix a tiny bit of cheese with it and we keep the Royal Canin Yorkshire 28 dry food available in case she gets hungry. Occasionally I give her Gerber Graduates green beans and carrots [she likes veggies] ... also I give her a little chopped apple, pear, watermelon [she also loves fruit]! Because she still gets bored with her food, these little veggie & fruit variations really help to keep her from going on those stubborn starvation diets! Sorry this is long ... but, it's really hard once we have taught them one thing and then suddenly realize it's bad and having to tell them no!! Hope this helps ... good luck!

| I just have to give my two cents on this subject too. Yes, dog food really is the best for your Yorkie. Once in a while treats are ok like fruit, vegi, cheese, etc. But their main meals truly must consist of quality dog food. Schatzie loves Bill Jack. Our little Half-Pint we lost ate Royal Canine but Schatzie hated it. So, she eats the Bill Jack with a little wet Puppy Ceasers mixed in. Oh, I admit, she gets a dab of ice cream now and then and a little bit of scrambled egg, but only now and then and it's a very very small amount. As the other members advised, steamed chicken/turkey/etc is good with no spice also. Enjoy your Yorkie!! |
