Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | when is your yorkie usually hungry? OK so when i got morgan she was eating 3 times a day. About two weeks later i took out lunch because she wasn't eating it. then slowly she stopped eating breakfast. I got tired of throwing out food. so now i give her fresh food in the morning and leave it in her pen all day. she won't touch it until at least 9pm. its weird. if i offer her treats, cheerios, cheese, ANYTHING she'll eat it no problem. but dog food, i think she hold out until night time because she's waiting for something better. does anybody else have this problem?

| What food is she on?? Cali was like that when she was eating Natura Choice. It scared me so bad because I can't imagine not eating until 9..much less a 2 lb puppy! So I switched her over to Chicken Soup and Wellness. She does much better. I also put about half a teaspoon wet food on top and mix it up with the Missing Link and then pop it in the microwave for about 10 secs. She gobbles it right up!! Good luck

| Hi Kellie. Angel has never been a good eater. She will have her moments where she'll eat regularly for a while, but then she'll revert back to not eating unless I add rice, soft food, pineapple...to her kibble. Even with the soft food or rice mixed w/ her kibble, she doesn't always eat the kibble. If she doesn't eat all her kibble, I save it for her next meal. I feed her twice a day now, but she was being fed 3 times a day when I first got her. Since she's getting spayed on Mon., I'm making sure she eats her meals this week. I have to hold her in my lap and put the bowl in front of her for her to eat at times. She'll start licking the bowl where there's Missing Link powder or soft food and then eventually eat her kibble. It works most of the time but not always. It's very frustrating. The latest she'll eat her 1st meal is around 12 p.m. and the latest for her 2nd meal at night is around 9-10 p.m. I'm at home with her right now, but I'll eventually be working outside the home. I worry she won't eat when I get a new job. Last edited by DJ30; 09-27-2006 at 08:19 PM. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I"m not worried about her not eating till 9 because she's perfectly healthy otherwise. there are no problems during the day with hypoglycemia or excessive sleepiness. she's still a friggin nut. She's on wellness now because i thought she maybe didn't like the other food that she was on. I was feeding her natural balance and bil jac. She's only been fully on wellness for two days now. I don't want to add people food to her kibble to get her to eat. that's a bad habit to start because then she'll always demand it. i don't want to use wet food either because its such a pain in the butt. plus she picks out all the wet food and leaves the dry. maybe its just her thing to not eat until 9pm. like i said, i'm not too worried about it, its just weird.

| Ok. Angel acts normal as well, but I hate her not eating as it worries me. I'm going to switch her to Wellness when she's close to finishing her current food, which is Nutro Max. Does Morgan seem to like Wellness better than the other brands? I give her a piece of pineapple at night before she goes to bed, but if there's kibble left, I'll put it in there so she'll finish it. I know what you mean about wet food. It IS a pain! She's probably going to get more of that next week after she gets her remaining baby teeth pulled though. How much do you feed her a day? I feed Angel a 1/2 cup of kibble, but she doesn't always eat everything. Is it ok if she doesn't finish? I feel she doesn't eat enough sometimes. Last edited by DJ30; 09-28-2006 at 08:49 AM. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | morgan probably eats 1/4 to 1/2 a cup a day. she does get alittle something for lunch like some cheerios, a piece of cheese, or a finger of yogurt or PB

| I think all Yorkies are picky in their own ways. Diamond was on Royal Canin dry puppy food and she would eat it fine, she even would be a pig and eat the whole bowl several times. Within the last two months, she wouldn't even touch the Royal Canin until she realized she wasn't getting anything else. I switched her to Merrick's Puppy Plate about a month ago and she liked this but it's a game with her. After two weeks of eating that, she was fussy again. So I started again with the Royal Canin and she would eat that. I know it's not good but I switch between the Merrick's and Royal Canin every couple weeks. I rather keep her on the Royal Canin just because the Merrick's makes her poop like crazy, sorry if that was too much information. My mom started giving Diamond little pieces of turkey or treats mixed in with her kibble but I don't think this is good because she will get used to this. She does eat the kibble when things are mixed in with it but she is spoiled rotten I finally told my mom to stop giving her little scraps because she will eventually stop eating her food since she is getting all this other stuff! Sorry it was so long!

| Jake seems most hungry in the mornings. That's the time of day when he seems to eat the most. I am still free feeding him, and he will nibble here and there during the day. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i didn't want to free feed because i didn't want her to get used to snacking throughout the day. even though the food is in there with her all day she won't eat it until 9 or 10pm. oh well. just her thing i guess. maybe i'll try putting peanut butter on the bottom of the bowl in the morning to get her to eat more.

| My boyz are hungry when they get me up at 6:00...they go outside, do their stuff and come in for breakfast...then they go back to sleep I give them each about a tablespoon of soft food for breakfast and supper and free feed dry kibble throughout the day. They have a bite here and there but they seem to eat the most when we eat and right at bedtime. They always grab a few pieces of food to take to bed with them. Even though I free feed it hasn't affected their 'schedule'...they go twice a day. We don't give them table food...when they get treats it's from their treat bag. If you decide to switch foods see if you can get a sample bag or two to make sure your Yorkie will eat it...most premium brands will let you return any unused portion for a refund though if your dog won't eat it. |
