Biting his legs/hair coming out Hi! I am a new member. I recently went through a tough time with my 11 month-old Duffy, as he had terrible diarrhea/vomiting and blood in his stool. I must have gone through a hundred postings on this website to read about tips you guys had, and it was so helpful! We ended up going to the Emergency Vet, but the advice I got from this site inspired me to join. While his diarrhea problem is getting a little better, I am noticing little patches of hair on my carpet lately. I notice him biting (rather hard!) at his back legs and sides. Sometimes he scratches pretty violently at his sides as well. He has never had any other skin/hair problems before, and I only wash him about every 2-3 weeks. I feed him NutroMax Puppy dry food (although he hasn't eaten that in about a week... he is spoiled with his "bland" diet of chicken/rice/yogurt from his illness.) Any ideas as to why he's doing this, and if I should be very concerned? Thanks so much!

Welcome to YT. Is he on any medication? He might be alergic to it. Is there a chance that he has fleas? Do you see any scales or raw skin? You could try oatmeal shampoo, but I believe I'd take him back to the vet.

Hi Jeanie, thanks for your response. Yes, he is on Metronidazole (antibiotic)and Carafate for his tummy problems. I wonder if he is allergic! I don't think he has fleas... but i'll try the oatmeal shampoo before I take him to the vet. I see no scales or raw skin, but I do see microscopic white flakes, probably from all the itching (kinda like dandruff). Thanks!
