She chews EVERYTHING Hey all. Maybe someone can help me. My yorkie is 10 months, almost 4.5 pounds. She still has some baby teeth that are crowding her mouth (double layers of teeth in some places) and I am sure that's very uncomfortable for her. She wants to chew everything in the house that she can find, and the other day, we woke up to find her eating our wood dressers! My furniture will never be the same. I have bought her the booda cornstarch bones (instead of raw hide which my vet strongly suggests against for her because she's so small) ... and she loved them, but they made her very sick, and the vet said a resultant no to those too. She likes greenies, and she will sometimes chew a plastic bone, but all in all, I guess nothing is like what's off-limits. Any suggestions on a chew toy that will keep her interest, or on how I can at least stop her from eating the furniture? I have gone through almost an entire bottle of bitter apple, but it only works immediately ... not at all long lasting. Also, do you guys think that the double layers of teeth are ok at 10 months? We're not due for another vet appt until october. THANKS!

shared advice I will share with you some advice another YorkieTalk member shared with me -when my pups were eating my dining room table and chairs-- Thank you milliecorrales!! - Anti-perspirant- it seems to offend them. I bought a container of the clear gel type, smeared it on everything they had been chewing on that I didn't want them chewing on and it stopped immediately. My kitchen smelled very "manly" for several days, but that wasn't a bad thing...

My chihuahua really liked the "kong" toys....the little hollow ones...I bought some of the "squirt" cans of liver flavor and put some in....then froze it. She would lick and lick and chew and chew on that thing for hours.....they CAN"T chew them up....they are tough rubber!!! Or you can put peanut butter in it....and freeze it. They have different sizes from tiny to really BIG.

| I would also recommend the kong toys. I put peanut butter inside and froze it it kept Gracie content for quite awhile. Also about the teeth Gracie lost all her puppy teeth at 5 1/2 months I would call your vet if the teeth are not loose she may have to have them taken out by the vet. I know a lot of times when they do spaying or neutering they will extract any baby teeth that have not fallen out yet and they usually spay or neuter at 6 months so I would definately consult your vet before October.

Diesel chews a lot of stuff that is off limits for him also. It makes me upset at times but I feel like he doesn't have enough to keep himself entertained during those times. I also know that he is teething and just needs something to chew on. I bought him a kong today! We'll see how this works. ~Reagan

Thanks! Thanks everyone, This has all been very helpful. Wembley has Kongs, but she doesn't use them as chew toys, but rather as a treat holder or food holder in her crate (when i'm gone for too many hours, I leave her some food in a kong). When she was younger I did the frozen thing with the peanut butter, but it's been a while, so I will give it another try You guys don't think, though, that all that peanut butter is too much? We have the smallest kong, but she's so little! Also, thanks for the advice on her teeth. She was spayed in January, and no one at the vet said anything to me about getting her teeth pulled, but I am definetly gonig to call today to find out about that.

Cleaning a Yorkie's Teeth I am always hearing that we should brush our baby's teeth - especially the yorkies who are prone to dental problems. Does anyone do this? If so, how often and HOW? My Benji is only 5 months old. His mouth and teeth are so tiny, it's impossible to get in there with my finger while he is fighting me. Ugh! I do have a dental spray, but we have to pin him down to do this. It's awful! Any suggestions? If I use the flavored paste, all he does is try to lick me. Thanks! Also, the suggestions for the chewing are greata! I will go home and use my husband's stick deodorant on the wood and freeze the kongs.!!!
