| Not eating anything! Pancake is 7 months now and hasn't been eating like she used to for about 1 month or so (I have always fed her human food and it has never affected her eating her dry food). The human food I give her is just little pieces of whatever I'm eating if it is fairly healthy and tasty. When I noticed she wasn't eating very much, I added a couple strips of chicken breast throughout her food, and she ate the whole thing. This worked great for a couple weeks, then she just picked the chicken out to eat and I have been losing the battle ever since. I have tried adding canned food (pedigree, iams) and that doesn't help much. She's so spoiled now, I didn't know that feeding her human food would eventually stop her from eating her own food. She is still on puppy food too, i tried the next step up and she won't touch it. I am feeding her nutrience which is sold at the pet store where I bought her. I have read through the threads and Merrick, Innova, and Canidae are mentioned frequently. I live in a small town in Canada, there is one pet store here called pets unlimited and they only sell Nutrience. The only other place to get anything for pets is Wal-Mart. It sucks, I wish I had a PetSmart or Petco. Anyway, I will probably end up ordering Merrick online, but is there any other good brand I can get at Wal-Mart and does this mean I can never give my baby human food again? I love food, and I just figured she would be a happier pup if she was allowed something really tasty every now and again. Sorry for such a long post, I'd really appreciate any help. Pancake is my first pup and I want her to be healthy! |

| I forgot to mention that dhe doesn't even eat any doggy treats anymore! They smell great to me, but she wont eat them. She used to love the bacon and chicken flavored treats, I don't understand how a dog ends up not eating doggy treats!! |

| Walmart does sell one brand of dry food that has great ingredients, but I can't remember the name of it (UGH!). If you order on-line you can get Merrick's Puppy Plate in a canned food as well. Since she prefers human food, this dog food looks and smells just like the real deal. I'm told it is human grade and you could eat it too, if you really want to try it!! She should still be on puppy food though, till at least one year old. But, if she won't eat that - whatever she will eat is better than nothing!! When Sissy stopped eating her dry food, she would eat the Natural Balance meat rolls, but if you don't have a pet store, you might not be able to find that either. It looks like sausage and is encased in a plastic sausage-type of wrap. There are other brands with similar stuff, too. You slice it into small pieces. Sometimes this will work, too. If all else fails, keep up with the chicken breasts - but boil them without any seasoning and try adding rice or small diced potato or sweet potato and some diced veggies and see if she will eat that. Many of us cook just like that for our babies. Again, whatever works. Good luck!

| Hurray for The Barking Lot! Well I have been searching for weeks, and right after I post my question I find an answer. After some further digging, I found that there is a store called the barking lot 30 minutes away and they sell Canidae. They also sell Merricks (wet only). I think Canidae would be best anyway because it is for all ages. The food she is eating right now is Nutrience Puppy and you are supposed to switch to Junior after only 4 months. But she hated the Junior and it gave her diarrhea too! Anyway, I hope she does well on Canidae and if she won't eat it I'll keep trying wet food to mix in until I find one she will eat. I have been reading through different threads and a lot of people feed their babies people food. So if she does well with Canidae, maybe I will keep giving her tiny portions of yummy people food. Thanks for the help, I'm so glad there is another store close enough that sells premium dog foods!!!! |

| Canidae You are fortunate in finding the Canidae. I live within driving distance of Petco, Petsmart & private pet stores and I still have to order Canidae online. The price of the food isn't bad but the shipping is awful. Congratulations |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | my parents have a pug and they have that dog so spolied from eating human food he hardly eats hard food, it will sit in his bowel for a week before he will eat it. I have tried to tell them that him eating table scraps is a big no no, but they dont listen. he is over weight and has no energy. It's so important to stick to your guns and not feed them off are plates. I know when were eating and her little face looks so innocent and she just wants a small little bite, it's hard not to cave in, but we have to remember it's for her health and we have to do whats right to keep her healthy. I hope your baby like the Canidae! |
