Lightbulb Tearing and bottled water

I had Yoshi groomed today and the groomer recommended to reduce tearing that i might want to try bottled water for him to drink because she says the chlorine may contribute to increased tearing. She is going to try this on her Maltese and this is supposed to minimize the problem in 3 months .Has anyone here ever heard of this ?I think I am going to do some research and see what I can find on the subject.Cathy and Yoshi

Interesting I have been thinking about giving my babies bottled water since I don't like to drink our water so why should they. I wonder if any bottled water is ok.

Giving them bottled water may or may not help, but it certaintly would not hurt to give it to them. It all depends on what the tearing is from. But yes if the tear staining is from the water, switching from tap water to bottled water will improve the tear stains and I have seen many dogs where this is all you have to do and it clears up the tear staining. There are many things that contribute to tear staining such as:
Genetics
Cutting teeth
Poor diet
Water
Over active tear ducts
Eyelids are not deep enough to catch or collect tears resulting in constant tearing

I give mine distilled water ( I heard it is the best type of water to give them, be careful some bottled water has sodium in it which is not good to give), Chicken Soup dog food (which is suppose to be great for dogs that have tear staining), and my maltese is now getting Angel Eyes which is working great!!

I have beem giving my dogs bottled spring water since day one. It's been 2 1/2 years now and there is just a tiny bit of tear staining. I do wash their faces every day though. Don't know if the washing or the water has anything to do with it though.

Default Tearing and bottled water

We gave our Maltese bottled water all the time and his tearing was such a little amount that he never got those yellow/orange markings that most Maltese get in their face hairs. We made sure the bottled water didn't have extra things added to it, like sodium.
Now we have our little Ginger and she gets water from the Brita filtered tap water jug. Both Ginger's vet and her groomer have said that this water system is excellent for her! She has very little tearing!
Hope these postings help you!

I have given my baby Dasani bottled water from day one that I got him and he has pretty bad tearing. I dont really think bottled water would work. If so...what brand? lol cause it doesnt do anything for my baby.

My vet recommended distilled water for Jake because he was tearing alot during teething. I've been giving it to him for quite some time now, and he has no tearing.

Distilled water (you can buy it in gallon jugs at most grocery stores) rather than regular bottled water is said to help with staining. Distilled water has no minerals in it--the pigment in tear stains comes from iron in water.

Distilled water is best. I used to give Hannah bottled water and I did not notice a difference in her tear stains, then I switched to distilled and it works great. I have been giving distilled for 4 months now, and I was already using it when I got my maltese Bentley, and we have no problems with tear staining with him either. Some of the bottled water still has minerals in it but the distilled does not. Here is a picture of Bentley, the only problem I have is that he has a little staining around his mouth...

Interesting. We have soft water. So I would think that there would be no iron in our water. However, she does get "gunk" under her eyes. I certainly can try the distilled, but there are suppose to be no minerals in soft. Does anyone else use soft water?
