Has he had any vaccinations lately? Pixie developed a lump from her Rabies shot and it was about 3 or 4 months before it finally went away....

Went to the Vet today. And the lump under the skin is most probably the same thing that KELLYV posted. It may be a reaction to the rabies vaccination. It is apparently very rare that a puppy would have a tumor. Lipomas and carcinomas are much more common in older dogs. But to be prudent, I still have to monitor the lesion for a few weeks to make sure the size is either stable or smaller. The vet said that when a puppy has a reaction like this, it may not be a good idea to have the second rabies shot. As with all allergic responses, the second exposure is much worse and could be life threatening. Anyway, I'm very relieved today.

Good to hear.... Like I said, Pixie's lump slowly went away over a few months. Hopefully your pup's will do the same. I'm not sure how it is in your state, but in WI your vet can provide a waiver for the rabies shot. When she's due for her booster, I'm going to request they do a titer test to determine if she has the antibodies for rabies. If she does, I'm going to request a waiver instead of the vaccination. I see no need to give my dog any more shots than what's necessary. IMO, a "booster" is pointless if she's already protected.

| Brandy has a odd shaped lump under the skin and darkened skin with decreased hair growth at the site of her rabies injection (back of her thigh). My vet did a biopsy and the results were "consistent with a reaction to rabies vaccine". He said it will most likely not go away and it's been at least 6 months and no sign of it going away.

Yes - reactions from shots and lipomas (fatty tumors) can both cause lumps and both are common and harmless. But, I'm sure you're anxious to hear exactly what it is from the vet. Good luck! Carol Jean
