| Heart worm tablet??? My vet gave me a heart worm tablet to give to Louie. He is only 11 weeks. Should I give it to him? The vet said I should, but I'd figure I'd consult with you guys first...given the fact that my vet gave my baby a LEPTO shot (dumb---)!!! Does he even need to take this at all???

| I've never had any problems with the heartworm tablet. I just put it in the palm of my hand and let him sniff it. He then just takes it on his own. I haven't heard of anyone elses dog having any kind of bad reaction to their heartworm tablet either.

| The only problem I had with Cordelia taking it was she wouldn't chew it or swollow it. So I started mixing it with her food.

| Speaking of heartworm...do any of you have your babies tested for heartworm? Maddie will start heartworm tablets on the 1st of each month, June - November. Then, she is supposed to be tested next year for heartworm. Why should she be tested if she is on the medication for heartworm? The tech said that sometimes we may forget to give one to them or something and it is just best to get them tested every other year. I'm just wondering if you all think it's a good idea or what? I understand this is transmtted by mosquitos. We already have mosquitos here...can't believe it...it's only April and hasn't been all that hot! |

| yes...test is to be on the safe side. If, by whatever reason, they get infected we can start a treatment soon...Mojo also gets tested annually! |

| Diesel is taking Heartgard Plus. It is a chewable heartworm medicine that must taste pretty good. I just give it to Diesel like a treat and he seems to enjoy having it each month. Reagan |

| The blood test for heartworms is to determine that they do NOT have heartworms before medicating them. The heartworm medication can be fatal if they already have heartworms. Monthly medication prevents them from getting heartworms from mosquitoes. I give my boy and girl heartworm medication monthly year round, though the vet still tests them annually, just to be sure. It's expensive to keep them medicated, but the cost of trying to rid them of heartworms is super expensive and dangerous. |

YT Addict | Alex has never had a problem taking his heartworm. I generally start him on it in May and then go thru Oct. mosquitoes sometimes stick around a long time here. I just want to be safe. Plus, the vet still test yearly. It is just a prevention and I personally prefer it that way.

| My vet had us give Max only 1/2 the tablet the 1st time, and then gave whole tablets each month after that. I'd recommend trying that if you're worried about so much medicine in his teeny system all at once.
