Default has kinda stopped eating...

My Trixie is 7 months old and she has stopped eating. She used to eat her food and now she sometimes eats it. For the past week she hasn't even eaten atleast half of her bowl. All she wants is water. She will eat treats and beg for food is she sees you eating. I mean she wants it but she goes and sniffs her food and is not at all interested. She stopped eating her food about a month ago so I put some dog sauce on it and she loved it. So then I got 3 different favors and alternated and she did fine for about a month. Now she doesn't want it..even plain. I don't know, should I be worried? She's been eating the same food for 4 months now (Purina Puppy Chow)

Many will tell you that a dog will not starve themselves. If she's begging people food or treats....I think she's decided they just taste better. We do not offer Ramsey people food....because we learned from another yorkie...that she'd probably decide NOT to eat the dog food, and hold out for something better. Treats are pretty limited to a couple a day.

You may want to change her puppy chow to something a little better. Innova and Royal Canin are good choices.

HTH.

Deb hit the nail right on the head! Wosie eats Innova Puppy and loves it! I also give her a teaspoon of Innova Evo wet mixed in, and she chows down!

Good luck!

I agree with the last posts. Yorkies are not picky eaters by nature - their owners cause them to be picky.

Default Eating

Lex is doing pretty much the same thing...but my spin on this particular problem is that I think he might be sneaking down to the basement (where I moved our cats food to) and eating April's food. I can't close the door because she roams the house and her litter box is down there so if she can't get to it she will have an accident somewhere else. I have to figure something out. I really don't want to change his food until it's time for adult food.

My cat's food is on top of a table. Doesn't phase kitty a bit to have to jump up for it.

My girls won't eat dry food alone. (see? Picky eater syndrome, lol) So I buy them Innova Evo and put a scant teaspoon on each meal, along with their Missing Link supplement.

Here's the ingredients list:
Turkey
Chicken
Turkey Broth
Chicken Broth
Chicken Meal
Herring
Carrots
Whole Eggs
Salmon Meal
Natural Flavors
Guar Gum
Seaweed Extract
Apples
Tomato Flakes
Cottage Cheese
Herring Oil
Potassium Chloride
Apple Fiber
Inulin
Vitamin C
Sea Salt
Choline Chloride
Sunflower Oil
Beta Carotene
Vitamins/Minerals

It's really high in protein so I don't give them very much. But it sure does help them chow down, and it is so good for their skin and coats!

I might just have to try that one. I have a small kiddy table in the basement that will probably do the trick. I was contemplating moving it anyhow because I know as the weather warms up it will draw ants. I will see what happens. When I first put it down there from in the kitchen where it has always been she was mad at me. Poor girl. Siamese cats are very vocal...let's say when I made the move she yelled at me over it.

Yeah, she's yelling....where's my dang food?? LOL. I have three. Two eat dry, one eats only wet food. If I run out of wet food...that kitty will meow his head off...he's starving...

Sounds like your little pup is "eating between meals." Remember with these "little dogs," it doesn't take much (just a bite here and a bite there) to spoil their dinner.

I spoil my dogs - but I do know that if I don't give in to them and don't give them any treats all day long - they are much hungrier in the evening.

And - it's surprising how we often don't think our dogs "are eating well" --- until we offer them a piece of chicken or something off our own dish. It's surprising how fast their appetites return.

I'm afraid that most of our picky little eaters are just spoiled --- and, I'm just as guilty as anyone. My little Bichon is very picky about eating his dog food - but, at the same time, he's a little overweight -- what should that be telling me?

Good luck! Carol Jean
