| Royal Canin & When to switch to Adult? I've read most of the threads and see only a very few comments about Royal Canin. My vet has been very impressed with the food. Sissy has been on the Puppy Mini since I brought her home at 12 weeks old. Sissy is currently 8 months old. The label of Royal Canin says for puppies from 2-10 months old. Should I switch Sissy to the Yorkie variety once she is 10 months old - or keep her on the puppy longer? Sissy is a tiny yorkie - only 3 1/2 lbs. I doubt she will get much bigger as her sister from the litter (the breeder kept her) is just over 2 lbs. I also use Old Mother Hubbard treats. They are very small dog-bone shape, but I break them into about 6 pieces to use as treats for going outside. Any other thoughts?

| Hi Jodie, My yorkie is also 1 yr and 3.5 lbs. We started her on the mini and after 10 months switched her to the adult formula. We started by combining the two as an adjustment for her. Then after 2 weeks we switched her to the adult only. The adult formula bites are a little larger but she seems to have no problems at all. Best wishes

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Changes According to the vet when I asked this question...he told me ten months is the best time to change. You will have some left over food so you can mix and transition them into the next phase. The vet said at that age they don't need as much of the stuff that is in the puppy phase. I will probably change Lex around that time as well. The breeder that I got him from told me the same thing. Hope it helps.

| Sissy had four baby teeth pulled at the same time she was spayed. I had mentioned to the vet that her baby teeth hadn't fallen out (and were razor sharp!) and her adult teeth were growing right next to the baby ones. It looked very strange. I felt bad having both her teeth pulled and her spaying surgery at the same time, but only one anesthesia was needed - so that was good. She didn't appear any worse for the wear and started eating as soon as she got home, so her mouth didn't appear sore either.
