| how old when yorkies go in heat? Can anyone tell me how old a yorkie is before it goes in heat? I have a male and female, the female will be a year old on May 24th 2006. Could she have gone in heat and me not know it or would my male let me know? |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | You would definitely know when your bitch was in heat. The male might have started marking in the house and then try to mount/hump your female. Some girls take longer to come in and some are later. Friend's bitch came in at 6 months her first time. I've heard of some taking as long as 14 months before they come in. Heat will last 3 weeks. First week is a lot of swelling and bleeding. Second week the blood lightens up a great deal and this is when she will be in her prime. Last week, hardly any blood and swelling will start to go down towards the end.

| Pippa didn't have her first heat until she was 18 months old! I think that is unusual for a small breed though. Kimberley (TXSHOPPER) is always a very accurate source of information.

| Brandy's first heat was at 19 months. I kept thinking I must have missed her first heat and my vet said her first heat may have been "silent" with very little symptoms but when she actually went into heat it would have been hard to miss. The swelling alone was very obvious.

| About 'Tinytunes' My 2 lb. 'tinytunes' is now, about 13 months old and a week. She started this 'In the heat thing' about a month ago. We're not even sure she's over it. Her nipples are swollen! She started doing this humping thing on my leg back in November. WHAT DOES THIS HUMPING THING mean? She humps my family and friends. This is annoying!. Can anyone tell whats going on with my girl. |

| Don't worry. My girls didn't get their 1st heat till they were 20 months. If your male is old enough he'll definitely let you know. |

| My dog turned one @ the end of January & she's not fixed yet. I'm starting to notice that she's going into her 1st heat cycle. Before we go to sleep, she's panting very heavily & humps my daughter's arm while my daughter's asleep just about every night last week & this week. I've also notice that my dog's starting to bleed a little. Poor thing...itz sad to see her walking around the house panting heavily like she just got done running a marathon *lol* But it only lasts for about 5-10 minutes & she's back to normal & back at it again the next evening. So, I'll probably end up getting her fixed once she's done w/ all this in heat stuff...Poor babygirl!! =( |

| Our Babys in Heat! Hi I think i can help, maybe! My girl was born Jan 23,2006, went into heat right after thanksgivng. she started humping my leg. Only me! And apparently that is something they while in heat. Otherwise it was givin me a complex! LOL.... So, she wasn't a year old then. Then about 3 weeks later she blede and that went on for about maybe a week or 2. I have 7 month old Papillion, 'Piper. Now she went in to heat at 5 months and only blede....all over everybody...And they freaked....Pipers is beautiful...all snowhite...with lovely black markings. Most of these dogs you'll see with spoted eyes, one brown or white or the stripe running through the middle of thier nose...But, she's all solid. Just cute! But, she even freaked when she started bleeding. And she would cry. We're gonna to let her go through 2 more cycles....then we plan to breed her. As for your dogs! If their brother and sister DO KEEP AN EYE ON THEM TOGETHER DURING THAT TIME....And warm baths really relax them. Goood Luck! Love those Babys! I have a question? How many pixtures can we save in this program. I havea hard time uploading sometime. And I'm a photographer! lol Have a good week! sheila |
