| Fatty treats... I have a 3.3 lb yorkie that wont gain weight. Bristol stayed at 3 lbs forever so it took me months to add the .3 lbs to him! The vet said they want to see him get up to 3.8 lbs. What treats would you recommend that could "plump" him up a bit? I am normally looking for healthier treats b/c my other yorkie keeps gaining weight! I do separate their food so Asia doesn't eat Bristol's share...so I know thats not the case. Plus, I want these treats to be yummy so I can use them for training purposes too. Thanks! |

| How about feeding your dog a diet that is higher in fat all together and not just treats? If you put your dog on a active dog formula/high performance, it has the added fat that will no doubt put weight on him fast. It works for my larger breeds as needed due to the higher calories. If you don't mind the "junk food" tip, you can begin adding any brand of canned puppy food (some are "healthy", most are not) to his dry for a week and see what happens. You'll want to add its and maybe mix it so that its almost a half/half ratio. jm2c There is more you can do, but this is the best start imo. |

| I actually still have some puppy food which I know helps put some weight on. The hard part is separating my two yorkies during feeding time. I practically have to sit between them so Asia doesnt eat Bristols food and vice versa. I tried putting them in diff rooms but they wont eat when I do that. The do better when they are eating the same foods. I could try putting canned foods on Bristols thought...thats a good idea. Plus it will help him eat more since im sure its like a treat! |

| I use Bil Jac Liver treats. Not sure if they'd do the trick. | 1) If you ever feed your little guy "people food," you can be fairly certainly that the same foods that put weight on us will do the same for them. 2) Second, dogs (like us) will eat more of anything they like. You may just try to increase the amount of food that your dog eats. Mine would eat all day if I feed them pieces of chicken, other meats, cheese, etc. I would think that a bite here and a bite there - (of extra food)- might help your little pup to gain some weight. Good luck! Carol Jean |
