| Teeth cleaning without going under Has anyone else tried this? There is a woman who specializes in this type of dental care and I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with it? It's roughly $75, which is significantly cheaper than a "regular" cleaning, but I'm still wondering about the effectiveness. I was thinking of doing this at the 6 month mark between cleanings. Any thoughts?? |

| I'm in the same dilema right now, i can see plaque in Mojo's back teeth but the vet wants to wait longer, since it is barely there and to put him under right now it is not worth. Mojo is 2 1/2 and that would be his first cleaning...i am very concerned, at the same time i don;t want to leave his teeth with plaque, i cannot think putting my boy under every 2 years for a teeth cleaning...

| Professional scaling doesn't clean as well as having the dog knocked out and the vet going to town. If I could go back in time, I would have had Otis's teeth cleaned early in age. $150 is nothing! Try $616, which is what I paid the other day to have his teeth cleaned. |

| wouldn't that be awful stressful and dangerous for the yorkie to go through with out being put out? I usually have Buckeye's cleaned every year due to the fact that he doesnt' chew on things like other yorkies. I know when I have mine cleaned I have to have gas. I can tollerate pain any where except my teeth. mg:

| $75 is how much it costs here without Anesthetic. I'm amazed that somone charges as little as $15!! I was asking around about the woman who does it here and apparently she applies local anesthetic, but they don't have to be put unconscious. She just gently coaxes them and calms them so that she can get in their mouths. I've never seen it and would probably want to watch before I let Valentino do it, but since it's about $200 for teeth cleaning and going under, I would rather do this every other 6 months or year, if I could and have him go under ever 2 years instead. :s Charlotte |

| I had my yorkie's and chihuahua's teeth cleaned last summer when they were a year old. The vet charged me $100 for both. He gives me a discount since I have 2 dogs. My chi was just done again in March when she was spayed and the vet had to remove a bad tooth! She's 2 years old, eats dry food, and chews bully sticks but isn't great about letting me brush her teeth. She weighs 3 lbs though and her mouth is tiny. My yorkie will have his teeth cleaned next month. He's does great with teeth brushing but he's 6 lbs and his mouth is a bit bigger. I'm going to have their teeth cleaned at least once a year because I don't want my babies to have rotten teeth! Have you ever seen a toy dog with missing or rotton teeth? It's so sad! |

| I've had Jac's teeth cleaned for about $120 (they put him under). I haven't done Beanie's yet...i'm kind of afraid because she's so small! Jac's 6.5 lbs and Beanie's 3.2! Are the risks higher for smaller dogs?

| When I lived in San Diego, there were a couple of pet stores/grooming places that had people that did it. I only had Ginger at the time. I got her teeth done for about $65.00. After I moved here, there's no body that does it (as far as I can find anyway!!). My vet said that it's not recommend for deep cleaning, but for a in-between cleaning, it's good. One thing I have found is a product called "Susie Tarter Control". The only place I can find it here is the vet supply store. It has been a real tooth saver for me. I give it to all my guys. (You put it in their water.) The only one I've had to have teeth pulled is Parker, but when I got him, his teeth were so bad his vet didn't think he'd keep ANY of them. After much care and the water treatment, he only ended up losing 3!! I wish I could find someone here tht did s good of a job as the people in Sn Diego did. If you hear of anyone, please let me know. Suz

| putting small dogs under scares me. romeo had his done while under for some extractions. they are not pit bulls. why can't they do a good job with them awake??? maybe it's a way for them to rip us off. |
