| What do you do for flea control??? It's getting that time of year again and I was wondering what is everyone's preference for flea/tick control? I have mostly used Advantage/Advantix, but was wondering if there was anything safer or better. Does anyone mail order their treatments as the vet locally charges $12 per dose for Advantage...it is MUCH higher that what I was paying before I moved. Thanks for the help.

| My vet prefers Frontline, and I've always had good luck with it. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I use the Frontline Plus...takes care of everything including mosquitoes which we get pretty bad here and I don't want my babies itching. Also, I've started treating the yard with the granules so hopefully, that will eliminate a lot, too.

| I am not so good with names and if I went in my babies room to get it they would wake up.....So I give mine in the summer months the one that takes care of fleas, ticks, ear mites and heart worm. the rest of the year I just give them Interceptor for the heart worm prevention. |

| I use "sentinel". Seems to have worked out fine so far. If you buy a twelve pack it is a lot cheaper too.

| I used to use revolution. never had any problems with fleas before this year. we have switched to frontline plus at the advice of the vet. what i do is to buy for a bigger dog and divide the dosage into 4. recommended by the vet to do it that way. it makes it cheaper yet protection.

| I've been using Advantage and it seems to be working out well. You only need to apply the medication on one spot on the back of the neck. Some of them you have to put down their backs and it makes their coats greasy looking for a week until you can wash them again. I've heard frontline was good too, but does anyone know if you have to apply that along their back or just one spot on the neck? -Ashley & Emmy |

| I just got back from the Vet and we had a discussion on this very topic. I came home with K9 advantix. He prefers frontline (he sells both) but he suggested the K9 advantix for Mayzie because the dosage is smaller. Where we live, we don't have a real problem with fleas. My 2 Golden Ret. didn't have a one last season. I think he told me that both of them can go in one spot. He said bigger dogs you have to go down the back. He also told me not to apply it within 2 days before bathing or before 2 days after bathing her. I just paid 11 dollars for a single dose. I know it would be a lot cheaper for the 6months + 1 free dose (7 months) but this was not a good week for the extra expense. The 7 months was 59.50. After our mild winter, I think I will be the GR's on a regimen this season also. I will choose frontline for them. I think the vet said he feels that does a better job on Ticks (but don't quote me on that one). |

| Well..........I use Brewers Yeast with Garlic from Walmart. Only product I buy for my Yorkies at that store. It is a great 8-in-1 vitamin for coat and skin and tends to repell the fleas......Less than $5.00 for the bottle I belive. Stinky little pills that the dogs love and are convinced that they are a great treat. NO FLEAS!!!! I use NO other flea preventative. One pill per every 10 pounds...I cut them accordingly and one bottle lasts a LONG time for 4 Yorkies. |
