bad legs I have heared that yorkies are prone to leg problems and I wondered if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing. Lucy (who is 3) has had a few problems since she was small, she often limps for no apparent reason on the way home from walks (checked feet and no stones etc) also when she runs (kind of a canter gait- the one after the trot) she lifts her back right leg and kind of hops along on the left. Its not like she can't walk on it, I wonder if it is uncomfortable? I just wondered if anyone has any ideas?

Yorkies are prone to luxating patellas which just mean that there kneecaps slip out of place. Has she ever been examined by the vet for that? The symptoms you describe sound like that might be her problem. It's not usually serious and they can do surgery if necessary to correct it, but I would have it checked out. Good luck!

Brady ran funny like that for a couple weeks intermittently and we were worried but it seems to have gone away. This one when she was about 3.5 months old. I don't think it hurts them but ask your vet for sure!

Thank you for the advice, I'm gonna try and book her in for the end of the week. I hope she doesn't need to have anything done like surgery! Do you think there is anythink I could do in the mean time that might help like a cold flannel on the knee to reduce any inflamation?

| Schatzie had Legges Perthes Disease. She held her left leg up for over a month until confirmed what she had. A simple surgery fixed it and her situation confirmed hereditary but also can be caused by injury.

I have just been looking up Legges Perthes Disease and Luxated Patellas and from what I have gathered it could be either. Thank you for all your help! Im going to try to get her in to the vet in the next couple of days and ask for an X-ray see what that turns up.

My Chewy has that. The doctor said the best thing is for her to lose weight. My gurl is 6 yrs old, tho, and is 8 lbs overweight! I read that the surgery is not the best thing, because you have to keep them very confined afterwards for a month or so, and it is a place arthritis probably will attack. So, I am trying to lower her food intake, but it is ver hard! Her legs don't seem to bother her, she just runs funny sometimes. But we did make a ramp for the bed and couch, so she doesn't have to jump.
