| Skin Allergies Chloe is constantly scratching and she has bumps all over her body. The vet told us to give her benadryl for it.. but it doesn't seem to be helping. Our next option would be to give her the injection since the benadryl isn't working. Can someone tell me how often she would have to receive the injections and if they are expensive?

| I don't know about the injections - but it would hurt. I'd think that would be a last resort. Have you tried an elimination diet? My Yorkie was allergic to chicken of all things. She gets bumps and her skin turns real red if she gets anything with chicken in it. I have her on turkey and rice and lamb and rice. I'd try one of these "non" allergic diets 1st, and then I'd change her shampoo to baby shampoo or something for allergic dogs and go from there. If the benedryl isn't helping the vet should be able to give you something else, but steroids would keep you form being able to find out what she's allergic to. I'd keep her on the benedryl and try the diet elemination 1st and then go from there. Hope this helps.

| i believe that skin allergies are food related. we have our jack on natural balance venison and brown rice dry and wet and boy does he have a beautiful coat and shiny eyes. he did have some skin itches but all gone now! try it! |

| Often times yorkies are sensitive to corn. Look at the food you are feeding and read the ingredient list. If there's corn in it that may be your culprit. My female scratched herself bald because of corn until I figured out what it was.......corn in the royal canin. I tried the benedryl. I tried hydrocortisone sprays. I was at my wits end. Until someone suggested the food. It's not uncommon for yorkies to be sensitive to their food. Make sure you find a high quality one, with high quality ingredients. No fillers and few by-products. Good Luck

| We tested Pixie for allergies, among the items she is allergic to were potatoes, chicken, dairy products, corn, wheat, dust, mites, air quality, grass, pollen, etc. There was another person that had posted her Yorkie was also allergic to chicken among other things. My allergic kids have less allergies then Pixie. The rare occasions that I receive flowers, take them to the local nursing home, Pixie can't deal with flowers. It's a great excuse for my husband.
