| Do Yorkies have frequent breathing problems? Not sure if I can explain this right. I inherited my sons Yorkie who is about 18 months old. I love this little girl so much that I think I over worry about her which is not like me as Im a nurse and am usually practical. She is a very active, playful dog most of the time and does not seem in any distress, but when I hold her close it seems that breathing takes alot of effort for her. I have heard about collapsing trachea in these dogs...is this a lesser form of this or is this just the way they are built. I have two other small dogs(a Yorkiepoo and a Maltese) and neither of them breath the way she does. I have not taken her to the vet yet as she has been healthy and does not need any shots yet. If you can give me any advice or information Id appreciate it. Laura |

| One of my dogs Tripp has a collapsed trachea, and he starts coughing if a collar is ever put on him or he gets worked up by over playing. He doesnt struggle to breath though. You might want to at least call your vet and see what he thinks. Good luck and let us know how she does

| You might also want to ask your vet about allergies. It might just be pollen in the air causing a little bit of a sinus or respiratory problem. Linus has them and they are easily treated!

| I have a 5 month old and he also does some sort of gasping thing? Almost like he is sobbing ...He mostly does it when I talk to him and its like he gets excited or something? I asked my breeder and vet about it and they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about? Kristi |

| I have a 8 month old female that has been coughing, wheezing, sneezing and honking for 5 months now. She was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea and pneumonia but yours doesn't sound that serious. |

| When I hold Muffie close, you can hear just a slight wheeze. She 10-1/2 years old and she's always been like that year around.

| Please help me I have 2 2 month old yorkies and tonite i had to rush 1 to the emergency clinic she had labored breathing and pale gums . After eating she would run around really fast in circles and then lay down there were bubbles coming from her mouth and the hospital said she had seizures they have ran tests but so far no diagnoses I am afraid for her life we left her there for tonite so they could keep her on oxygen they think its a shunt but not sure if so someone give me some advice on what to do if it is and what are the chances of treating it successfully? |

| My pup does the same thing and I'm so worried about her. We just had her checkup at the vet and everything was OK....heart, lungs etc. Even with a clean bill of health, it still worries me. I'm wondering if this is a Yorkie thing or something I should investigate further. Oh my, we worry about these little ones so much...they keep us on our toes to say the least.

| Trachea problem I took my little Buddy to the Vet with this issue and she told me about the trachea problems that are common with little dogs. She said it has evolved as a result of continually breeding dogs in order to get smaller and smaller dogs. Their trachea fails to evolve or develop as the rest of their body does. Jen Buddy is now 7 years old |
