Need Help, Ringworm & kids Out of the blue my 12 yr old daughter has ringworm! About 10 days ago she got what looked like a mosquito bite . Then she got another . I did not know what this was because it was so small. She had gotten this many years ago when she started kindergarten! A few days ago it got a little bigger and I instantly remembered what this was. Well I got her antifungal medication. My question could she have gotten this from the puppy. I dont see anything like ringworm on the puppy but he does have such a bad case of dandruff. I think it looks too bad to actually be dandruff! The worst is on the right side of his head. It looks scaly and there is deffinately less hair on that area. I read that antibiotics for pets with ringworm can be costly and have to be given up to 6 weeks! Since this is very contagious I dont know if he will get it. He was on antibiotics for almost 3 weeks. So I'm wondering if that has helped his imune system fight off any possibility of catching ringworm? Advice and tips are appreciated pleeeeease!!!

Here's what I found: Pictures of Yorkies with ringworm: http://www.brisbio.ac.uk/ROADS/subje...reterrier.html Treatment: RINGWORM This is a common problem in the 1st 4 months of a puppy's life. The spores are usually picked up on grass with terrible effects. Check regularly from 5 weeks - sit in the sun and check for dandruff flakes. When you catch it when it's small it is easier to care for, but if you only realize that there is some ringworm when the hair is falling out, and it's the size of a 50cent piece, it's usually spread already. Treat it with 1% lamisil spray 3 times a day, followed with tinaderm cream, and don't stop until the hair is at least 3mm long again. An eighth of a microcidal tablet must be given for 24 days at least. So do get 3 tablets from your chemist and please make sure not to overdose. http://www.yorkiesparadise.com/Care.html More info: How is ringworm spread? T. mentagrophytes is thought to be contracted from exposure to rodent nests, and M. gypseum from contaminated soil, though the potential also exists for spread from animal to animal in a contaminated environment. M. canis is most often spread from contact with an infected animal or a contaminated environment, and therefore is by far the most likely to be a serious problem in a shelter. Ringworm is very durable in the environment. Ringworm can persist in carriers, furniture, carpets, dust, heating vents, furnace filters and the like, and can infect animals housed in a contaminated environment months and even years later. It can be spread readily on grooming implements, contaminated toys and bedding, or by humans on clothing and hands. It can be found on the hair of animals from a contaminated environment even when the animal itself is not showing any signs. In nature, the incubation period for ringworm is between 4 days and 4 weeks. http://www.vetmed.ucdavis.edu/ccah/P...d/ringworm.htm

Do I need prescriptions for all of these? Fastfreddie, I tried sending you a private message and it said that your mailbox was full. I pasted the message below: Do I need a prescription for all of these medicines? Lamisil Spray Tinaderm Cream Microcidal Tablets I will probably have to go to our vet. I am assuming this is what he has because both of my girls have it. The flakes that are reallystuck on his head were like that when I got him. I thought he just really needed a bath and hadnt been washed properly.I hope the vet doesnt charge an arm and a leg if he decides to give Cookie any tests for Ringworm + all the medicines . I'm just wondering if any of these medicines I can buy elswhere because I know it will cost more at our vets. Genie

Sorry about that, didn't realize my mailbox was full... Yes, if it's serious, best to go to a vet for it. Lamisil looks like it's available over the counter, but I believe the other two aren't.

| Genie ... is it possible that the puppy had ringworm already and you might get the breeder to help out with this? They generally give some kind of certification regarding health problems. Also, I didn't read all the info, is it possible that your girls got the ringworm from the puppy? Hope everything works out and everyone gets well soon! I didn't even know animals could get ringworm! I learn something new every day!!

NOt Sure where it came from My girls have been the entire summer with us so I dont know where they might have gotten it. The only possible explanation is the puppy. Ive checked pictures of dogs with ringworm and it really doesnt look like what I see on my puppy's head.He has flakes of dandruff on his hairs but the top right side of his head has super thinned hair that looks like a paste of flakes on it. My 12 yr old's ringworm is almost completely faded after putting antifungal cream for a week. I'm still putting it on her for at least another two weeks ,even if it looks totally clear. I honestly doubt the place I got him from would be of any help. I did not know that Florida had a Lemon Puppy law.Any purchased dog that gets ill within 8-10 days of date of purchase is eligible for a full refund! Even if it says the contrary on a contract. I think I would have probably taken him back 4 days after we got him. That's when we found out he had kennel cough (pretty bad) and the really bad flaking.Of course at this moment I would never ever take him back. I ,unfortunately did not get him from a breeder. I got him at a pet shop over 100 miles away. I thought it was the perfect place to find a puppy. Once I got him and found Yorkie boards and started reading all the horror stories . I was upset, very upset. He is the cutest baby Yorkie I've ever seen.He acts like a real baby too. he was napping tonight while we watched TV. I had him on my lap and carried him and put him on a pillow. Well within 2 minutes he opened his eyes and looked around for me. As soon as he saw I was sitting above him on the sofa ,he got up and stood on his two hind legs so Ican pick him up. I did of course and he went right back to sleep on my lap again! lol Genie
