| Home Remedy for Dry Skin Hey guys, when I took Molly to the vet for her puppy check, I showed him her dry skin. Of course, I've changed her food and I don't know what kind of shampoo the breeder used and stuff, but the vet gave me this homemade shampoo recipe to try. He didn't say it would make it better per say, but said it would keep it from getting worse. He also told me about some stuff to put on her food that they had that would clear it up, but I thought I would wait a couple of weeks to see if this other stuff would work first since it was $23. Anyway, here it is if anyone is interested: 3oz. of EITHER: Joy, Palmolive, or Ivory 1 1/2oz: White Vinegar 1 1/2 oz: Glycerine (available at drug stores) Mix into 1/2 gal. of water I haven't tried this yet so I can't vouch for it, but like I said, I got it from my vet.

| Oreo had the worst case of Dry Skin/Dandruff ever... I tried Oatmeal Shampoo.. that didn't work.. I took him to a groomer and told me about head and shoulders works really well, that some vets don't tell you about it becuse they want to sell you their products.. also when i took Oreo to the vet for kennel cough i mentioned his dry skin that he scratched so much at.. she recomended Missing Link. And Missing Link made all his flakes and itchiness go away! so i too out of experience recommend missing link (i bought it at Petco) |

| Yes it's a powder you mix in their food.. mind you this was when Oreo was 8 weeks old and was still on Canned food.. but i did mix a little bit in their dry food still.. because it keeps their coat shiney and soft! |

| I haven't tried this on Pita yet cuz she doesn't have dry skin but for my horses who do, after I wash them and rinse them I rinse them again with a mixture of 1 cup Apple cider vinegar to 1 gallon water, and you don't rinse that off, it makes the horses so soft and silky and helps with any skin itchies they have. of course you would have to cut the parts of vinegar and water down. |

| The apple cider / vinegar thing sounds like something to try. I gave Molly a bath the other day....I didn't use the vets' suggestion because I didn't have the stuff yet and she need a bath. Anyway, I used my little girls' shampoo on her. It's L'oreal baby kids shampoo orange mango and then her conditioner, it's something grape - still by L'oreal. I took a baby washcloth and, with her hair still being pretty short, I srubbed the crap out of her skin just like I would do to Ashlyn's head if she had cradle cap or to prevent her from getting it. You wouldn't believe the difference that one bath made! Then I put on the leave-in infusium every day when I brush her. It really is getting better so I excited. Whether it will be a cure, I don't know, but I'm going to try it again and see if it continues. She needs another bath today so we will see

| Ruby was really scratchy when we got her...I used puppy shampoo for the first bath (although she is one, this is what I already had)...she still scratched, so at PetCo I found "Four Paws Hypo Allergenic medicated shampoo for pets with aloe vera & coal tar used by Veterinarians for the relief of dandruff, dermatitis, itching and dry skin." I have used this three times now (weekly bath) and with each washing see a softer coat and much less scratching. The vet said coal tar and oatmeal are essantial ingredients for skin problems. The bottle is ugly (sorry, I'm in advertising so I notice these things)..it is white with a picture of a husky... hope it helps |
