| Cow hoofs safe? My little guy likes to chew.. all the wrong things! He does like raw hides, but I do not want to leave them with him if I am not there. Can anyone tell me if a cow hoofs are good for a chewie, and if I could leave it all day when I go to work? The big dogs like them..

| Cow hoofs pig ears, snouts ect..... i would stay away from ALL OF IT..... yorkies have notoriously sensitive stomachs and those kind of toys can carry germs from the dead animal they came from that can hurt little dogs (and sometimes big dogs) |

| I'd avoid the cowhide and pig ear stuff as well. Lots of members find Greenies to be a good alternative, though you may have serious problems if your Yorkie doesn't chew it properly, as it can get lodged in their stomach. |

| You also may want to try the nylabones. My girls got some for Easter and love them to death

| I have horses and my lil girl LOVES to chew on the trimmings when the horses get their feet trimmed, (it's gross I know) when she has one she doesn't want anything else, I don't let her get ones that small pieces will break off of. I don't think the cow hoof would be bad because they are sooo hard that they won't break pieces off of them. If you are really worried about the germs, boil them first. ( I have never done it but it would kill the germs) I buy these things from the feed store and have never had a problem. Pita has a pigs ear that she can't get a piece off of for anything and she loves to chew it. |

| I also give my dogs cow hooves. They both love them and are so hard to break pieces off (my 127lb french mastiff can't even break them into pieces) that I feel safe enough to let them chew on. They will spend hours chewing on them |

| My aunt told me just the other day that she was at her vet's and there was a poster about how unsafe the cow hooves were. She said she couldn't remember all of it, but that I should look into it. I know that my parents let there dogs chew them, and my dog, Coco, loves them. I actually threw mine out tonight. She sort of threw up a little, her throw up was a light color so, it may have been the raw hide bone. Either way, they are in the trash, and she's back to her nyla bone.
