| Recessed Testicle... HELP!! I purchased my yorkie at a pet store. (BIG MISTAKE!!) In the beginning I had problems with him. He was diagnosed with parasites and marked unfit for sale. I was not able to give him up, so I decided to keep him and take care of the problem. I am now arguing with the pet shop to pay me back vet bills. Anyway, almost 6 months later, I have come up with another problem... My yorkie is missing his right testicle. The vet found it in his stomach and said he will need surgery to remove it or there is a chance it can turn into a tumor. She also told me he would never be able to have kids. I am disappointed, I would have loved to have another puppy just like him. She said he had to be neutered. This was not my choice, and I am saddened. I paid $2800 for him. I received another unfit for sale, and when presenting it to the pet shop, they said they will not pay for him to be neutered. I explained that I never had intentions of neutering him, and now I had no choice. They said when I purchased him there was no guarantee I would be able to mate him. I do not know what to do. BC his testicle needs to be removed, it is a major surgery and very costly. Has anyone ever had a puppy with the same situation?? ANy help?? Does anyone know anything more than I do? |

| I agree with your vet about neutering. Does your state have puppy "Lemon Laws"?

| I am definately going to have him neutered. I am just scared bc of what needs to be done now. They are saying it is not a regular neuter. My state does have puppy lemon laws. I am also within the time limit. I was thinking about getting a lawyer bc they are still refusing to pay. |

| Poor little guy. You will have to have him neutered. This makes me so angry, most dogs for sale in pet shops come from puppy mills. This keeps the puppy mills in business. I wish they would outlaw pups for sale in pet shops. I won't even shop in a pet store that sells dogs. Sorry to run on,but i get so |

| I know.. I didnt agree with pet shops either. I went with my friend who wanted to find a dog. I saw the puppy and fell in love. It is one of those things, if I knew then, what I know now. I have since researched this. He did come from a puppy mill, but I dont love him any less. I am not able to give him up, not even 1 day after I had him. I am trying to deal with the problem. It is just hard! I am going to get him neutered, but I never knew it would have to be like this. I was hoping that someone knew more than me about this. I am so miserable! |

| The recessed testical can even cause cancer if I remember right, it is not something that is an option on whether or not to have it done. It will cause problems later on for the little fellow. Pet shops don't give a dam about the puppies, if people only could see in the back rooms what really happens in the pet shops. I will not go into any shop that sells puppies, just because I also would fall in love with the puppies, and I know that the only way to break the cycle is to not buy them poor babies. |

With life, everything is a learning experience. It is just sad that I had to deal with this. I mean some people do have success stories with pet shops. The puppy was just what I was looking for. He is still perfect in my eyes, and I love him to death. I have no regrets about buying him, they are willing to take him back. I am not willing to give him up. I didnt post this to get repremanded about buying the dog in a pet shop. I posted this to see if anyone knew more about this than me. I just wanted to give some history on the dog. Dont get me wrong, I would never buy from a pet shop ever again. Adoption is for me!

I know... I wasnt going to breed him to sell them. I wanted to give them to my family. He is really a great dog. I am not worried mostly about that, but the health of my dog. I am so sad, I thought buyign a dog would have been a pleasant thing. This may seem like a small thing, but I was told it is a big thing. I contacted a lawyer. We will see what happens..

| male You mentioned your reason for breeding is...You want another one just like him...I have had very few reproduce themselves..once in awhile they do, but most often it is the parents who will give you another pup like the one you are so fond of, but often they are all different, just like humans. |

| My little guy Biscuit had the same situation. Surgery is a little more invasive than a regular neutering, but Biscuit came through it fine. He was down for a couple of days, but then he bounced back like nothing happened. You will just have to keep him quiet a little longer.

| I'm not a breeder, just a pet lover so I've always spayed/neutered my pets. I think you'll find that having your baby neutered will make for a healthier pet and help you to avoid some common behaviour problems. I have had 2 dogs with ascended testicles, and they both went through the surgery without a hitch. It was a little more invasive and cost a bit more, but to be honest with you, in both cases it barely slowed them down. I'm not sure where you are in Jersey, but if you want to PM me I can tell you how to contact my vet. They're a big group and very good. Good luck! Edited to add: You might want to send a PM to teri88. She lives in NJ, too, and also recently went through something similar and sued successfully. Maybe she could tell you more the laws in our state. Again, good luck.

| My little Bears testicle was also recessed and they told me that he too would never have pups much to the surprise of my vet he had a litter and his son is just fine and I also just found out that he is going to be a father again he got my female before he was killed. When they have recessed testicle it is called a spay/neuter b/c the procedure is the same as when a female they go into the stomach and remove his little testicle. As far as breeding IMHO you can but it can be passed on.

| Undescended testicles are far more common that we are aware. The choc male in my album named Truffles or Casey, had only one descended testicle and I would not use him for breeding. I gave him to a pet home and he was neutered. Remember this..our females have an abdominal incision when they are spayed and thatis not a whole lot different than the extra bit of surgery needed to remove a retained testicle. He will be fine.. |
