| ? regarding thirst/urination Hello all. I have noticed that my Lexi seems to drink alot and pee alot. I was hoping she would have been able to hold her pee for several hours by now. She is 9 months old. We had her spayed about a month ago and they did the bloodwork and she checked out fine. I am still worried that maybe she could have a liver shunt but I do not know if the blood work would have ruled that out. She acts fine in all other areas. But she pees about once an hour (at least) when she is awake. She rarely can hold it all night. She also drinks like the whole bowl of water at a time. Am I worrying unneccesarily? Do any of your yorkies behave in this manner? Thanks for any input. Judy |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | She could have a Urinary Tract Infection...I would talk to the vet about it! With some meds she could be fine soon!!!

| Wow thats alot of drinking and peeing. The only time Chachi did that was when he was on medication. The vet told us he would be drinking and peeing more.

| Would she have a urinary tract infection for 7 months? This has gone on for as long as we have owned her. |

| My husband said that maybe it is the "puperonis" we give as treats for pottying in the right place. He thinks they might make her thirsty but she is allergic to corn so we are limited on what we can give as treats. Most of the packaged stuff has corn in it. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali pees a lot during the day but holds it all night. I think maybe because she is wee wee pad trained she has never learned to get on a schedule and pees when ever she feels like it? She doesn't drink a lot. If the blood work included a Bile Acid test that should have ruled out Liver Shunt.

| She's not losing any weight is she? Or not as active? One thing you worry about with a lot of drinking and peeing is diabetes, not real common but not uncommon either. You say you recently had her spayed - did you mention this to the vet? And what did they say? If she is acting fine in all other areas I might just give the vet a call and see what they say. Hope all is well! |

| Diva is a very hyper active dog and is potty trained in the house and this topic was always a concern to me as well. She has two litter boxes in the house and she'll twinkle like every hr. And we brought her to the vet b4 and the vet said it was very minor urinary tract infection, so we gave her meds 4 that, but she's always pee's quite often. and i found that the medicine didn't change anything. So I wonder if she holds it. For example....i dont take my dog out for walks but when i see other dogs out there, they will pee like 4 or 5 times. So to me i think diva holds her pee and lets it go whenever she pleases. |

| Punkin is 9 months and only once has she gotten us up in the last 2 months to pee in the night. She usually goes out every 3 - 4 hours, but holds it for longer if need be. |

| That is what I am wondering. She rarely pees very much unless it is first thing in the morning and she was able to hold it. Other than that it is just little amounts. Because she is in an xpen at night with peepads, I am wondering if she has never learned to hold it and so her bladder is just extra tiny. That does not explain why she is so thirsty. She gets so wet after she dives in for a drink. Her whole face is wet. |
