Was it someone on YorkieTalk or was it in a book I read, that said that the breed standard used to be up to 14 lbs? Mine is 7.9 lbs and I'm glad. I was a little disappointed at first but then I remembered I wanted a 7-10 lb dog in the first place but I really like the way Yorkies look. Whenmy dad got me one, I got used to the idea of something smaller but when she grew and grew I remembered my former thinking. As it turned out I got the PERFECT dog!

Still waiting to see what my Yorkie will weigh. I know his mother weighed a solid 12 pounds - but his father was only 4 1/2 pounds on a good day. I was told that most of their pups weight about 6 pounds. I think my Yorkie weighs about 6 1/2 pounds and is 6 months old. He seems to have slowed down as far as growing goes. He seems very little to me. I'll bet he'll gain one or two more pounds before he's through. He has the appetitie of a St. Bernard. Carol Jean

Bigger Yorkie Hello Everyone, My Yorkie, Gus, is approximately 12 - 13 pounds. He is a bit bigger than standard size, but I love him to bits. Yesterday, I was at a Yorkie Halloween party and this rude man asked if my Yorkie was a mix of another breed. I said, "no, he is a purebred Yorkie." The rude man said, "the standard size is 8 pounds." I said, "he is a standard sized Yorkie." Gus' ears are down and the groomer leaves the hair on his ears long. He looks like he has a page boy haircut. Everyone else at the party thought Gus was adoreable. He had just been groomed the day before and his fur really beautiful and shiny. The rude man's dog was a complete mess. The poor thing looked like it had never been groomed and the long "red hair" was a tangled mess! The dog was a bit neurotic and kept jumping up and down on his knee. I told the man that he had a nice dog because I love all Yorkies and animals regardless of their size and appearance. I feel better now that I have spouted off. I also have to add that the man looked like a "knob." He was dressed in a suit and tie for a Yorkie Halloween party. How weird is that?

convinced there is no way to tell! Hi! Our Franny (7yrs.) and Butler (10 mo's) are both plus 10 lbs. Butler was much heavier at a younger age but has thinned out a bit due to his food changing from puppy, he's eating a bit slower. Really don't think there is anyway to tell how big they are going to get. Franny sprouted between 1 and 2 years. Most will continue to grow after one year! Sounds like a beauty!

It's funny how many "experts" there are on Yorkie sizes. Just today my 7.5 month old girl went to the groomer's. Afterwards I saw a co-worker who asked me what kind of dog she is. When I said she is a Yorkie, she said she is a lot bigger than her Josie who is 2 years old. She said Josie weighs about 2.5 lbs. and my Abby weighs 7-8 lbs. now. I felt like we were back in high school and she was one of the mean girls and I was a nerd or something! Then she said that Josie was a different color too (I wanted to tell her that Abby is black and tan which is an acceptable color for Yorkies).

Abbie Hello Puppy Mom: Yes, it is amazing how many "Yorkie" experts are out there. Abbie sounds adorable. I felt like I was in high school too, when the weirdo at the Yorkie Halloween party confronted me about my “large Yorkie.” What is the matter with this people? They lack class, and they are not knowledgeable in any way about Yorkies. I had a Yorkie breeder, who breeds the tiny Yorkies, tell me at the party how sweet Gus was. She didn’t care that he was a big boy. He was gentle with the tiny ones and didn’t bother them. There was a Yorkie and Brussels Griffin mix at the party and it was the wildest and cutest thing I have ever seen. I told the owner the dog was amazing. The owner loved to hear that. Next time, someone wants to know if your dog is a Yorkie, ask him or her why they want to know, or tell them it isn’t any of their concern. If they persist, tell them, “No, it’s a Shetland pony.” If you ask a stupid question, you will get a stupid answer. lol Syl and Gus

I know a breeder that had two boys and one girl..the girl is going to be large.. she is 10 pounds now and is only like 8 or 9 months old.. her two brothers might see 3 pounds.. My vet calls them throw backs.. the original yorkies were really quite large.. so I am sure he is all yorkie by your avatar... It is really amazing how many larger yorkies there are out there..

| Although my Yorkies are small, I did see one in PetsMart that was 14 lbs. He was very cute. A co-worker's daughter has a Yorkie that weighs about 12 lbs. I see various Yorkies in my neighborhood when we are out walking and they look different than mine. I think they come in all shapes and sizes and I would love mine no matter what size they are. Those dark, beautiful eyes and not to mention the personality!!!
