| Arthritis? Muffie is 10-1/2 years old and a female Yorkie. I'm just wondering if there are other OLDER YORKIES that have arthritis? If so, are you having your Yorkie treated? If so, what are you giving it and is that across the counter or by RX? The only sign that we see is that Muffie doesn't SIT DOWN all the way anymore. Is that a sign of arthritis?

| My 12 year old schnauzer has arthritis very badly in his back hips. He sits funny and has trouble getting up, but then he has had the arthritis for about 3 years now. It is very hard because I know he hurts, sometimes worse than other times. I give him Previcox every other day and it really helps. I used to give him Zubrin, but the vet says Previcox is easier on his stomach and liver. My friend recommended acupuncture - her dog got arthritis after an injury and she had good luck with accupuncture. I haven't yet made an appt, but I'm going to soon. I also give him glucosamine every day.

Muffie is just starting to get to the point where it hurts her to "sit". She doesn't go down all the way. I haven't talked to the doctor about it yet. I thought that I might try some MSM Glucosamine or something similar that's across the counter. How do you know how much to give since they're so small? Thanks so much. I'll be anxious for your reply about the meds. I also sent you a PM. Did you get it? God bless you.

| I highly recommend Platinum Performance Plus for your dogs arthritis. You can also ask your vet about Adequan injections. I am hearing more and more about the negative effects of Rimadyl so I am trying to not go that route myself. I have seen a remarkable difference when I use Platinum Performance and they also have a product called Ortho -chon for joint support. You can read more about it on www.platinumperformance.com |

| You have to get Previcox and Zubrin from the vet. He says that Previcox is much better, I don't think he is prescribing Zubin anymore. He gives me the dosage. Yes, I would definitely give your baby glucosamine. Studies in humans clearly show it really helps joint health. I think it helps my boy too. No I hadn't seen the PM - but I have now!

| Adequan is an injectable(IM) and can only be given by a vet, you do need a prescription and will need more than one treatment. It is expensive running abut 180.00 for 4 doses. Platinum performance is a vitamin company for horses dogs and people. I have used their products extensivly and almost always for prevention and treatment of joint issues. I cannot say enough about the products I have used. I just placed an order for both of the things I told you about. Check out their website. I have tried MANY feed thru joint supplements including Cosequin and think theirs is the best. Not to mention the overall look of the animal improved annd I thought they looked great before!! |

| We're going to try a more natural way of treating Muffie for her arthritis. We went to PetsMart this afternoon and bought some "Missing Link Plus" which she only gets about 1/8 teaspoon a day. Also we got some soft chews called "Hip & Joint" by Nutri-Vet which has Glucosamine and Choldroitin in them. She doesn't even get but 1/2 one of that a day. I sure hope that these will help her so we can keep her off formal medication by prescription.

| That is such a good idea - to keep her off meds as long as possible. My dog's arthritis is so bad now that it has affected the nerves in his hindquarters - he has lost almost all of his muscle mass back there and his hindquarters are very narrow - his back legs are touching when he stands (he is a 15 lb schnauzer - so you know they are not supposed to). We've given him supplements for years and he did really well. We only had to start meds about a year and a half ago. Now, I think he is in pain almost all of the time - it's very sad.

He's lived a long live. Good for him. Thanks for your input. God bless you both.
