| Toby is sick Toby has been acting funny this last week. I noticed last sunday that he had an allergic reaction to something, there were red blistery looking welts on his tummy...... well it spread so i gave him a little something for it and it has disapated, but he is still acting funny. we are taking him to the vet tomarrow morning to get him checked out His stools are fine, normal He is shaking his head like his ears are bothering him, but they are totally clean, no mites, no odor, and no pain or sensitivity when i touch them or massage them He has his tail down when he walks which isnt normal and he stays close and at odd intervals just SITS, like he is uncomfortable and he just sits down (now remember, he has normal stools...) so could he just be itchy even though that rash allergic reaction went away? Also, i tried the soothing anti itch oatmeal shampoo but it didnt work, it had no effect on him at all He isnt as interested in play anymore. . . we met one of his friends "skunky" outside one day and he would play like normal, he just came to my side and sat down to wait while skunky's owner and i talked. Oh, and when we would go outside he would start to shake as if he is cold, but it is fine outside (which leads me to believe that he is sick) And he is extra cuddly, he likes to just sit with me (which is normal, but hes usually not this clingy... does that make sense) example: i left the house, btu my fiance was still here and he had a $**t fit, barking.... he hasnt done that since he was a PUPPY So anyways, we are going to the vet tomarrow, but his symptoms are really wierd.... has anyone elses yorkie acted in this strange manner when they are sick?????? I have an idea of where the alelrgic reaction came from, my mom came home to see that the gardeners they hired were SPRAYING PLANT KILLER on the morning glorys in their hard (which line the fence, the gardeners were told to CUT THEM BACK, but they just sprayed away) anyways, the dogs like to lay in the shady area by the fence, so i am thinking he got some of that weed stuff on his skin and had an allergic reaction, i dont think he could have ingested any of it though because he doesnt eat the plants out there, he was inside 95% of the time, and if it was on his skin, it wasnt for long because i gave him a bath IMMEDIATLY when i got home. |

| OMG! What scares me is the Spraying of Weed Killer! Maybe he's had an allergic or toxic reaction to the spray! I'm sure the vet can help him. But I would keep a close eye on him until then.

| He was exposed to that stuff about a week ago.... so if he was, it isnt immediatly fatal... the only thing i noticed at that time was the welt/blistery rash.... he got sick and started acting funny in the middle of the week |

| Poor Toby!! They can absorb through their skin .... and since you don't know how much it could have been, it sounds like that could be it. Please let us know what they find out ... hope he will be OK! Was he in the yard while they were out there spraying?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I hope he's going to be OK ! If he's shaking his head that could be an ear infection - somethimes we can't see those....and on the other symptoms I have no idea what could be wrong but HOPE he's ok and starts feeling better !! |

| I'm sorry Toby doesn't feel well. I hope you can get some answers tomorrow when he visits the vet. The red blistery bumps are odd. Please keep us updated after his vet visit.

| we just got back from the vet.... i told him the story and he said yes he probably had a reaction from that, and that my guess of him being affected physically could be correct. , anything with that sort of stuff would have been acute and had been noticable RIGHT AWAY (he woudl have gotten REALLY SICK the same day he was exposed if there is any danger). . . we had the vet check his ears and there wasnothing in there, no inflamation.. completely clean.... he kept saying all the things i was describing are "behavioral" which kinda pissed me off, because if it was behavioral it would be NORMAL, which is not the way he is acting. . . His temp was a little elivated so i think it is just itchy skin and a cold. . . The vet asked about any other thigns toby was allergic to and i said yes FLEA medication/shampoo, so he said dont use that (duh) and he said use the oatmeal shampoo (which gives him a rash as well) so i think i am just going to use his old puppy shampoo, we have never had any problems with that stuff before. Also he said that if toby's skin continues to be itchy than i should only give him a bath once a MONTH... i dont know about the rest of you, but i cant stand his smell after not having a bath in one WEEK let alone a MONTH. . . So i dont care what the vet says, i am just going to keep doing what i am doing. I will use the puppy shampoo (which he hasnt had a problem with) and i will give him a small dose of childrens cold medicine to help his temp, and love him lots.... (i dont want anyone to think that i dont value the vets opinion, because i do... but he was not our normal vet (he was in the same office but because it was short notice we went in to see anyone possible) also, toby is my baby and i know when something is not normal, the only thing the vet found was an elevated temp, but otherwise he was given a clean bill of health. I talked to the vet we usually see and he agreed with my actions on both the medicine and the shampoo, so no criticism please ) |
