| Wow! So many questions....... Okay, here goes.... I have a friend with a yorkie that is about 3 years or so............and her house reeks of urine....her little guy marks on everything! There are no other dogs, just an outside female dog, but she never comes into her house. Anyway, she said that her little Yorkie is housetrained (pee pads) and goes outside and has not been around a female to bred. Okay, I showed her the site and we searched every topic on marking, neutering, etc. WOW! What a list!!!! So, here are some questions we came up with (and we really do not want this to become a debate on what is right and wrong....after all, everyone has their own opinions........she just needs some ideas and help). 1. Is he too old to get neutered (alittle over 3 years and a pet only) 2. We're confused....does neutering cut back on marking or not? 3. She has laminate wood flooring and using a product with amonia (not a high amount). I told her not to use a product with amonia (remember reading that on another post)....but what can she use on her laminate wood flooring (I think it is Pergo, but not sure)? 4. It is really okay to wear a belly band all day? (I don't know how often he marks, but I know my little guy only does it every now and then, but I am home all day). 5. Should she ask the vet for a complete check up before getting him neutered? In case, there is a medical condition there? And what condition would cause him to mark, if there are any? 6. He is not bored....I've seen this little guy....he ahd tons of play toys, treats, etc......so I really do not think he would be bored. Okay, any help and we would all appreciate it. It is funny because all of our furbabies are different...but I understand where she is coming from. Thanks!

| oops...one more thing Sorry for the long posts.......... We did forget something..........the dog has never been "out" and he is about 5lbs (I'd say alittle more). What is the best to use and should she find another vet.....her vet is like mine (not mine, but like mine) - deals with all sorts of animals (all sizes, etc). And what can be expected. Also, she brushes his teeth, but he has never had a "real" teeth cleaning...what can you expect with this? (Course, my little guy has never been "out" either or had his teeth cleaned by the vet, so I am of no help). Thanks again!

| Ok..here's my thoughts on the questions. 1. No, not to old. 2. Yes & No. It can help it but that isn't always going to eliminate it. 3. I really don't know about this one. I would just suggest like Nature's Miracle or some other pet odor/stain remover from Petsmart. 4. I wouldn't leave it on him all day. Give him breaks so he can "air" out. Maybe she can find the time when he is most likely to do it & keep the band on at those times. (I leave one on Lucky at night while we're sleeping) 5. Yes, better to be safe than sorry. And as far as him going under just make sure they use isoflurone (sp?) gas only on him! And as long as she brushes his teeth often I think he would be fine, but you can have the vet look at them every so often to make sure they are ok. Also if she is going to have him neutered she can get his teeth cleaned at the same time. Hope I am of some help to you!

| male I would neuter him and put on belly bands..they can be worn all day..be sure to change the inside min pad and you can put baby powder on him if his belly is damp. BUT...and it is BIG but..he will never stop marking as long as he smells where he has already marked..since she had pergo etc she should have no trouble getting the urine smell out...he must be peeing on something else if the house smells like urine. Check throw rugs, furniture, long drapes, bedspreads...baseboard areas too. Remove the smell, neuter, use a belly band until he improves and things should be 100% better..but to just neuter and expect him to stop probably won't happen. |

| Thanks.......this has helped a lot! I will pass on the info. She is an older lady (sorry) that has recently had extended family move next door, that she has been helping with. I take it, her furbaby has always marked, so it isn't anything new....I think right now, she is very stressed, so I am trying to help her (well, actually help him --hee,hee) out! Her house isn't dirty, but you can smell urine (or I can) every time I go in (not a strong smell, but it is there). I might offer to shampoo and wash everything and go over her floor...I think I will call some flooring companies to see what they suggest to clean the floor...I'm not familiar with Pergo, so I don't know what you can use on it. The Neutering and Teeth information were helpful for me too....I need to get this done to my little guy....I have toyed with the idea of breeding, but he is my baby and I would like to keep it that way.
