| Fear of the Vet? Does anyone else have a Yorkie who is terrified of the vet?!? Moe has gotten to where he absolutely completely & totally flips out when we go to the vet. First, he frantically tries to get away and when he can't, he progresses to growling, snapping, etc. Anyone else have this problem? Other than this, he doesn't have any problems with aggression. |

| YES we have the same problem. The vet has to take my baby to the back to do anything to her- who knows what they do in the back. But if she is with me she acts much worse. |

| Awww the poor baby. Has he ever had a bad experience other than the normal, shots etc? I have no good ideas maybe you can make sure and take something really irresistable for the vet to give him as a treat each time,it works for some dogs. My Rio is afraid of the vet but it has never gone further than his eyes bulging out of his head and trying to become a part of my upper body. Good luck. One more question, are they muzzling him because of his behaviour? Sometimes this can make things much more dramatic. |

| Chachi is definitely different when he goes to the vets too. He has had to go often lately for allergies. He doesnt become frantic like your dog but he is definitely apprehensive. The vet came in the room with a shot in his hand and Chachi scurried back in his carrier. He recently had to stay at the vets all day to be dipped for mites and when he came home he would not leave my Husbands side. He is definitely tired of going to the vets but while he is being treated for mites he will get dipped every 10 days for 6 times.

| My Isabella shakes so hard and for so long, she is exhausted by the time she gets home. My Vet loves her but she is just frightened. I dont think there is a whole lot to do for them. |

| This sounds like more of a problem than this might help. But try this: First try NOT to hold onto him tightly. Dogs hate that. If a leash will work do that, but if you must hold him, do it lightly. I know that is hard when they are scared and flailing around. Also dogs lick and yawn to quiet themselves down. Try mimicing his behavior back to him. Give lots of 'kisses' prior to going to the big bad vet. Then do so while there, or yawn to him. Yes, the vet will think you are crazy, but so what, you love your dog. Dogs learn to hate the vet somewhat because of our react to going there. If we hate it they will too. Show him that you understand his problem and speak his language to calm him. This may or may not work......

| I would consider starting over with a different vet maybe. I think he must have had a bad experience and maybe it is best for him to start over somewhere else. Vets who practice both homeopathy and western veterinary medicine use calming and relaxing techniques to reduce an animals anxiety. They use massage and a soothing voice and soft touch. Hopefully you can find a combination vet in your area. Good luck. |

| Thanks for all the responses! Man, you guys are quick! I am definitely changing vets. At our last visit, the vet wrapped both hands around Moe's neck and choked him until Moe stopped resisting. No way in "heck" am I letting that happen again! Thanks for all the suggestions! |
