| Bottom Line - Is the Merrick's food healthy? Good morning all. I've been reading the posts on foods. I've finally found a dry kibble that Lexi seems to like. She doesn't eat enough of it ever to make one decent meal but she is eatting it. I leave it out all the time and have figured out that she eats less than 1/4 cup of it per day. I am still searching for a wet food that she'll eat because I like to give her an evening meal of the wet food. I just ordered a couple of can's of the Merrick's food that I've seen mentioned on this forum. I was wondering, bottom line, what everyone's opinion of it is (everyone whose tried it that it). Have a great day! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I bought the canned last week from a feed store based on a thread someone on here stated regarding Merricks. Maya my pom loved it and she will only eat Cesars, Cali ate it if I mixed it with hamburger. It looks like people food. It has chunks of white meat chicken, duck, sweet potatoes, green beans and apples, that's in teh puppy plate one.I stopped feeding it yesterday when Cali got sick just in case, but I,m sure it has nothing to do with it so I will start them back on it tomorrow.

| I don't think it gets much better than this. It is also approved in the Whole Dog Journal list for Wet food 2006. My gang loves this food and even I could eat their Chicken Potpie and I think it comes to the closest of doing your own homecooking http://www.merrickpetcare.com/ Press Releases Merrick Pet Food Named as Best Pet Food of the Year 2006-2007 The Glycemic Research Institute in Washington, D.C. announced today that they have selected Merrick Pet Food as the Best Pet Food of the Year for 2006. The coveted Best Pet Food of the Year for 2006 was awarded to Merrick Pet Food for “Turducken,” Grammy’s Pot Pie,” and “Thanksgiving Day Dinner” Gourmet canned dog food. This is the second year in a row that Merrick’s Pet Food products have won the accolade as Best Pet Food of the Year. The senior staff and associate research fellows of the Glycemic Research Institute (GRI) provide Pro Bono Glycemic Certification Marks for products that pass the strict criteria for “Low Glycemic” foods. The Federal GRI Seals of Approval are based on ongoing clinical studies (In-Vivo) that determine the glycemic index, glycemic load, diabetic, and fat-storing properties of foods. Determining how humans and animals metabolize foods allows scientists to gain insights as to the varying effects different foods have on metabolism and longevity. For the past 20 years, GRI has been the industry leader in glycemic research, receiving the first glycemic patent ever awarded. Glycemic Solutions, the Official Clinical Testing facility for the Glycemic Research Institute, conducts Human In Vivo Clinical Studies for the food and nutrition industries. The Glycemic Research Institute (GRI) examined hundreds of pet foods in 2005 to determine the healthiest overall product, focusing on anti-aging, diabetes, arthritis, glycemic, blood glucose and insulin response in the canine. As a Non-Profit independent research organization, GRI has no ties to the pet food industry, and does not accept monies from any company for the Pet Food of the Year award. | Is Merrick's Food Healthy? I have been using both the dry and wet Puppy Plate for Bogey and Gabe for at least 6-8 weeks. They loved it immediately and I was so surprised when I opened the first can of wet food to see all of the chunks of meat, veggies, etc.. I have written about it in replies several times here on YT and am glad that others have been equally as pleased. Obviously, with the award there is no doubt that it is a quality food. I will begin trying to introduce other varieties of Merrick slowly to my pups but I agree that the Chicken Pot Pie sounds yummy. I was if it is as good as the human version of Marie Calendar's with broccoli?? |
