| Senior Dog Food Recommendations?? So, Mya is about to turn 10 and I feel like she's getting a little chunky lol (the vet says she's still at a healthy weight but I know it's a slippery slope! The one thing is she has a slight allergy to chicken and I try to keep her grain free - so I like to find brands that have a wide recipe range at a high quality. Anyone have any recommendations???

| Most of the weight loss foods unfortunately have chicken. :\ some I like are- Orijen Fit & Trim Orijen Senior Wellness CORE Reduced Fat Annamaet Low Fat You could also try feeding a bit less of food. Jackson is 9 now and I find he tends to gain easier than he used to. He probably gets more treats than he should though throughout the day lol. But for kibble he gets 1/2 cup per day (and he's 18lbs) and a spoonful of wet food. 1/4 AM, 1/4 PM.

I know absolutely nothing about the Nulo dog food company, but looking at the labeling on the bag, their foods are made in the USA and are nutritionally balanced according to AAFCO standards, which is a start. Their website is Nulo Pet Food | |

| I learned in class that senior dogs need more fatty acids, Zinc, Copper. What I did because Callie is on a prescription food is I just added a senior multivitamin with those in them. So if she is doing well on her food now and the vet says she is fine I would stay on that food and just give a multivitamin. You can also feed a little less of your food and add some veggies like green beans which are low in calories but will still make her feel full.

| If you feed your dog food that contains dog meat, you're putting their health in danger. There are many types of dog foods made for dogs that are unhealthy for humans, including chicken and fish. Avoid canned dog food and meat that's been heated in the microwave or undercooked pork. Cooking raw meat puts raw meat in contact with anti-bacterial substances that could promote disease. If you don't know well what a dog can eat, and what not, you should check it on this website where everything is described very well. |
