| Teeth cleaning at 11 years old? My yorkie Pao is now 11 years old. He is going in this Friday for teeth cleaning and extractions. I'm very anxious over this ( risks of anesthesia) to the point that I wanted to call this off. Some of his teeth are mobile and although I brush his teeth everyday he still has Yorkie teeth. The last cleaning and extractions was 4 years ago.

| I worry less about the anesthesia, especially if they are healthy, and more about the infections they can get from bad teeth. Your vet would probably tnot lol you if they thought it was too risky. Keep us posted!

| If they do pre surgery blood work it should be ok. Anesthesia is very safe. My 10 year old goes in for blood work on the 25th and the dental on the 3rd of next month. Even knowing how safe it is I still worry but she should be fine.

| I will keep you and your precious Pao in my thoughts and prayers on Friday. I definitely agree that the thought of having your beloved little one anesthetized is very stressful. I hope you are as lucky as I am in that you have a veterinarian who has an office full of talented caring people who take care of the doggie moms and dads as well as the furkids. |

| Pao is at the vet as we speak. Will update in a few hours on how he's doing. Here's hoping everything goes well. Multiple teeth are coming out and some incisors as well. This is with brushing every single day 😓.

| We are home! 7 teeth extracted! So this includes 4 from the last time and 4 prior to that...so all in all he has 15 teeth extracted so far and this is with brushing everyday since he was a pup. The vet gave me the extracted teeth and they all look wonky.

| Oh boy, the Tooth Fairy is coming tonight . So glad to hear that Pao is home and all is well. Sometimes even with the best of care you can have teeth problems. |

| Thank you chattiesmom! I'm so glad he's okay. A pic of the teeth that the vet gave me. Some that didn't make it out as one piece was discarded.

| I'm glad everything went well. Genetics play a huge part in teeth. Brushing though might have helped some, he may have had to have more teeth pulled if you didn't brush.

| Thank you everybody. The brushing definitely helps. He has bad teeth genetically for sure. We have been on top of it since he was a pup and he still needs dental work just less often because of the routine brushing. I think the fact that he's on canned prescription food due to his pancreatitis isn't helping either but it's the only food that he is doing well on.
