New baby eating problem My new baby, Elvis, was bought from a kennel owner I found online. I found no complaints against her so felt okay with getting a baby. Elvis is 9 weeks old and when I ws leaving with him the seller told me he might need a little help learning to drink so I thought he had likely been on a hanging bottle. Ive raised many puppies and never had problems but this little guy does NOT know how to eat. He doesnt know how eat soft food as if he was never weaned and has never seen actual food before. He doesnt know how to lap up water so it has been an eyedropper to get liquids in him. She told me he eats Royal Canin softened with water and a little soft food. He doesnt know what it is and I have to actually put it in his mouth. Today I got some puppy formula and gave him some in the dropper and he loved it but still is having problems learning to lap. I mixed some ground turkey with the formula and he finally put his tongue out for it. I dont feel comfortable contacting the seller because Im not sure I would get the truth. Does anybody else think I got a lazy seller who just left the puppies on the teat?

| I thinking you might have got him from a bad breeder or puppy mills. Has he been to the vet yet? There might be a physical cause that is the problem.

Vet says nothing physically wrong and have patience and help him along. He sniffs and looks at me like "what now, mom?". I asked to see the parents and she said dad had been retired now and wasn't on the grounds and mom was there but she did not allow anyone into the dogs areas (a large building in the back yard) because the last time she let someone in they stole a dog. How do you do that?

His teeth are appropriate to his age according to the vet. he is taking the milk substitute through a dropper, wont do it with a bottle. I pulsed some soft food with the formula and he is taking that but hasnt gotten the hang of putting his head to the dish and lapping. I honestly think this is all new and he was nursing the whole while. that is likely the reason she didnt want me to see the mother because he would run to her and start nursing. He isnt lethargic or acting puny and im offering him liquids every couple hours to prevent dehydration. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I'm sure he will catch on in a few days, i have other Yorkies and they are teaching him all kinds of bad habits so im sure by watching them he will figure it out.

Things are looking up. he is eating a little soft food from my hand and lapping formula from a finger over the dish. Day by day i think we will get there. Thank you for the input and suggestions!
