| Any truly EFFECTIVE dental chews/sprays/gels/food? We have an 18 year old who has received regular cleanings at our vet over the years. But our Vet says she is reluctant to put him under anesthesia now due to his age. He has gotten very cranky in his old age and will no longer allow me to brush his teeth, and they have gotten really grungy. There are so many products that claim to remove tartar, but I'm skeptical of solutions that sound "too easy." Has anyone found any of the various chews, sprays, gels, water additives or food that really works? |

| Hi, What I use was recommended to use on this site. 1. TropiClean fresh breathe clean teeth gel. 2. TropiClean Fresh breath oral care water additive advanced cleaning for plaque and tartar. I get them online but they may be sold in pet stores.

| Check out HealthyMouth. They are VOHC approved (and $$$$ unfortunately) but they have done trials etc to prove it works. They have a water additive as well as a gel. Here is the website. https://www.healthymouth.com/Articles.asp?ID=246

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I've used Healthy Mouth the last approx 5 yrs or so. It's one of the few that's VOHC approved. It's expensive to buy the little jug, but if you use it the right way - it actually REALLY lasts a LONG time! (use it by making a small bottle, and putting on food at each meal, like a little gravy; I use a mustard type bottle for it so I can just squirt it on the meal).

Do you use the gel and the concentrate or just the concentrate? Thinking about getting some since I'm getting Emma's teeth cleaned soon and need to do a better regimen.

| Virbac Dental Chews. Cleans teeth and freshens breath. Great product I've used with all my dogs, American Eskimo to chihuahua to Yorkie and they had/have beautiful teeth for years so it must work. |
