| switching to one meal a day when did you switch your puppies to one meal a day? i have a hard time getting bunjee to eat in the mornings without putting some milk in the kibbles. however, he eats really readily and well in the evenings. i'm contemplating switching him to one meal a day now. he's 17 weeks now, going on 18 weeks this sunday. i currently feed him 1/2 a cup a day, split to 2 feedings. i'm contemplating feeding 1/2 cup in one feeding going forward. will that reduce the number of times he goes poop? |

| Mine will always be on 2 meals a day. I think it is hard for them to eat 1/2 cup in one feeding. They get a 1/4 in the morning and a 1/4 in the evening.

| I would never give an animal only one meal a day. Just think if you could only eat one meal a day, how you'd feel. I free feed so i'm not to much help there. But clearly if you only give a Yorkie one meal a day they won't pooh as much because what goes in must come out and if only a little goes in then you know the rest. If he doesn't seem to eat during the day why don't you just leave what you'd give him in the morning down and he'll pick at it throughout the day and then give him his dinner.

since bunjee is still in the process of housebreaking. i time his feedings so that i can guestimate when he'll need to go poo and will monitor and treat accordingly. mind you, i still give him little treats throughout the day like a small baby kong with a small amount of kibbles and cottage cheese.

| I wouldn't only feed a Yorkie once a day. Feed the proper amount, but divide it up. Look on your puppy's kibble bag. It will tell you how much to feed. You could throw your Yorkie's sugar level off and end up with a very sick puppy if you only feed once a day. Also, milk is not a good idea and often times results in the runs. A pup doesn't need milk after being weened from his mom. Hope this helps a little. |

i do wonder if the change in feeding would affect his blood-sugar level tho. i might change his feeding to 1/8 cup in the morning then the remainder of the 1/2 cup in the evening and see how he does.

| I've always free-fed my yorkies. It seems they all have different times of the day that they eat. ( I have several yorkies) |

| I feed josie 1/4 cup in the morning and 1/4 cup in the afternoon because it keeps their blood sugar at a constant level. Because Yorkie's are so small, I think that it is better for them so they don't have problems.

| I put dry food out for Bridget every morning, but she usually doesn't touch it till I come home at night. Then she devours about 1/2 cup. I worry about her not eating throughout the day, but it's there if she's hungry I guess. |

| We free feed Miko also...He's gets a cup to a cup and 1/4 in his bowl (he's a bigger yorkie and this is what is prescription food calls for him to eat) in the morning, he picks at it during the day, and he eats the rest in the evening. I think yorkies need at least 2 meals a day or free feed if they're not little piggies (I know some have yorkies who will just keep eating and keep eating no matter how much food you give them)
