| Blood in she stool My Yorkie, izzy is 13 years old, here lately not all the time just off and on she will have a very runny stool with blood in it. I have had her to the vet and they have run every test possible on her, for her age she is in great shape. One of the assistants at the vet told me her mother's Yorkie does the same thing, it normal and it comes with age. Does anyone else have this problem and what do u do. I hate to pen her up |

| NO it's NOT normal with a senior dog or at any age. My last girl was 17 years old, anytime she had blood in her stool she was sick. I would see another vet for a second opinion and bring a sample of the stool.

| It sounds like colitis......is the stool dark, runny and bloody? Are there any other symptoms? My yorkie has bouts of colitis usually because of something she ate. I have her on a strict diet because of it. Her coilitis usually flairs up if she has eaten something she wasn't supposed to eat. There are usually no other symptoms and it usually clears up in a few days. Here's a good article and run it by your vet as well https://www.petcarerx.com/article/to...s-in-dogs/1514 |

| blood in stool One of my yorkies "Picolina" 9 years old has bouts of bloody diarrhea and also bloody vomit. As far as I have read, she has digestive problems, so I ordered special diet by Science Diet for digestive problems and my vet gave her Ok, (never checked her for this) but she is doing very well. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | No, bloody stools are *not* normal and are not normal just due to age either. Is the blood dark red or bright red? I would consult your vet for GI issues and a possible prescription diet. Did you add ANY new food or treat?
