| Is it dandruff or mites? My 8 year old Yorkie, Ted, has always had chronic skin dryness/itchiness but I noticed that his dandruff looked a lot like some kind of insect eggs and stuck onto his hair. When my husband took him to the vet, the vet said he couldn't see anything wrong and that it was just dry skin but maybe he just didn't see the spots that had this weird dandruff. I attached a picture. Have you guys seen anything like this before? Thanks for your help. |

The vet could've just easily viewed some of those flakes under scope and/or done a quick skin scraping for under scope too. Does this kiddo chew/lick their paws? If so, it's likely allergies. You may want to supplement w/ fish oil or coconut oil to help w/ the dryness.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Paw licking/chewing is often the cardinal sign of allergies in dogs. The histamine reaction in dogs causes their paws to feel extremely irritated, hence they chew and lick at them for relief. Does she do this year round or just at certain times of the year? Does she itch her body?
