| Advice on neutering? I'm really anxious because my baby will be neutered tomorrow. He's a year old and he marks all over the place inside and outside. He's perfectly potty trained but lately it's been crazy with marking... He's so desperate to go outside and when we go for a walk, it's a game of how many times can you pee on a vertical object. I know neutering won't stop the marking 100% so it's more so his desire to go outside comes down a notch plus health benefits. Anyways, being the perfectionist that I am, I want to know everything about taking care of Roy before and after neutering and any advice from your experiences with neutering that you wished you have known before getting your babies neutered. |

| Best wishes for Roy for all to go smoothly tomorrow. Max needed pain meds his first night, so make sure the vet sends you home with meds. He didn't bother his incision, but you might want to have a cone collar on hand if you cannot supervise closely. No jumping or running ideally for a few days. Most boys recover quickly and think they are ready to resume normal activities, but Max caused some bruising at his incision by trying to jump. No bathing for 2 weeks.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hope everything goes well ! Come home with pain meds, for sure...and, with a "pain plan" for what you're supposed to do if/when the pain meds are not managing the pain.

| I also have plans to get my boy neutered this week. How did you know they were in pain? Is it harmful to just give him the pain meds to be on the safe side? Also, did anyone experience any changes in their babies' personality? My husband is worried that he won't be as feisty or energetic. Sorry to hijack this thread!

Some signs: isolating themselves or going to unusual places away from everyone to lie down. Ears in a downward, back position. Watery eyes. Reluctance to eat. Whimpering, or vocalizing loudly or resisting being touched. Our vet gave us 3 days worth of pain meds. It doesn't hurt to give the pain meds even if not needed. Personality: both of my boys are neutered, 7 years old, and just as feisty and energetic as ever! I'm hoping they mellow a little by the time they are 15.

We too were given 3-4 days worth of meds and I *always* just give them as scheduled bc you do want to stay ahead of any pain going on - you don't ever want to play "catch up" w/ pain meds. So no, it does not hurt them to give them - in fact, it's much better if you do in the long run (for scar tissue healing properly etc). Save

| Thank you everyone for your answers!! I just got a call from the vet and they said everything went well so I can pick him up in a couple hours. I hope he'll be able to manage the pain well. I can't wait to see him!! |

When Scottie was neutered a year ago, he didn't look like he realized he had surgery whatsoever. No pain, nothing! We had to crate him for a week to prevent him from jumping and running around when he's excited. It was ruff stuff!!

I think he's too annoyed to deal with the E-collar so he's been just laying and chilling. I'm so glad he's not in so much pain because it would tear my heart watching him in pain!! | |
