| Garbanzo beans aka chickpeas Has anyone else encountered severe diarrhea when feeding foods with chickpeas? My girls have "iron stomachs" and eat almost anything. I make it a point to offer them small amounts lots of different foods (both dog friendly human and dog) and they eat almost everything I offer them. I do this to provide variety in tastes and textures and to help avoid stomach upsets in the event that they go on an unauthorized "food raid" aka get into the garbage. Some time back I made a food switch -- can't even remember what I switched from or to, but to "to" food was a super premium grain free food with chickpeas that I thought was a better quality than the "from" food. Lacie and Gypsy Rose developed loose stools, but Lollie wound up with a severe case of diarrhea that required a trip to the vet. It took an expensive bag of inferior food (Royal Canine Hydrolized Protein) to get her straightened out and now I carefully avoid any food that has the dreaded chickpeas garbanzo beans. I even have to be sure that Lollie doesn't scarf up a dropped sprouted chickpea from Tsali's cage. The girls are "regular" again and I am now feeding Earthborn Holistic Small Breed with great success. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Hey, stranger! Long time no see, Cindy! I had to check the ingredients of Orijen senior, and sure enough, chickpeas are in there. I've never had any problems. In fact, I swear by the food. They love it, Eddie has more energy and their stools are solid. We switched from Orijen regular a year or so ago. Not sure if regular had chickpeas. Chickpeas are pretty low on the ingredient list, though.

| Thanks Mike. I was away for a long while and them came back mostly as a lurker. The "new" food was a grain free product and garbanzo beans was the carbohydrate source. I guess it was just chickpea overload. I am so glad to hear that your guys are doing so well. I have kept up with you, Eddie and Jillie on fb - you three have brought so much joy to so many. |

| It's annoying me how ALLLL the new foods are adding insane amounts of peas. It's clearly to up the protein and please the "no corn, no wheat, no soy" people (who I used to be, and I guess technically still am, since I don't feed it lol). There's nothing inherently wrong with peas but it bothers me how many foods have "pea protein, peas, chickpeas" etc. It just seems excessive. Not sure why millions of peas are better than some rice or potatoes. I still feed Acana because I haven't felt like playing the food merry go round again but I occasionally rotate if I find something I like. He still seems to do well on the Acana so I stick with it, but the new ingredient list annoyed me. For example, here's the NEW lamb singles formula: Deboned lamb*, lamb meal, whole green peas, red lentils, lamb liver*, lamb fat, pinto beans, chickpeas, herring oil, green lentils, whole yellow peas, sun-cured alfalfa, Red Delicious apples*, natural lamb flavor, lamb tripe*, lamb kidney*, lamb cartilage*, dried kelp, whole pumpkin*, whole butternut squash*, kale,* spinach*, mustard greens*, collard greens*, turnip greens*, whole carrots*, Bartlett pears*, freeze-dried lamb liver, freeze-dried lamb tripe, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, zinc proteinate, mixed tocopherols (preservative), chicory root, turmeric, sarsaparilla root, althea root, rosehips, juniper berries, dried lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried lactobacillus casei fermentation product. vs. the old: Lamb meal, deboned lamb*, green lentils, red lentils, lamb liver* apples*, lamb fat, green peas, yellow peas, canola oil, algae, garbanzo beans, pumpkin*, carrots*, lamb tripe*, lamb kidney*, freeze-dried lamb liver*, kelp*, chicory root, ginger root, peppermint leaf, lemon balm, mixed tocopherols (preservative), zinc proteinate, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product. To ME, the old was wayyy better - definitely more simple.

| Wow...welcome back to YT! Stick around! Food...oh goodness. I am not like others with ingredients and I only want to say that the food you referred to as "inferior" is similar to a food that has been wonderful for my pup with IBD and MVD (he had liver shunt repaired in 2013). He has been on Hill's ZD since that time and is thriving. In my mind, if it works don't fix it. My pups eat all the foods that the DFA and others on the web rate as lower grade and they are just fine! My bottom line is that I fear recalls and many of these foods that advertise better ingredients are not doing as much in terms of quality control as they are advertising. (Blue is an example of that) I think ingredients are important but I want the QC as well.

| I am not stoked that legume protein is replacing meat protein in many dog foods under the claim of higher quality
