| Sometimes they never close. I only know what I have read here on YT. Many people have had pups live full lives with them, but they said they had to be more careful with the pups. Here is the Google search that show threads on Yorkie Talk about soft spots/open fontanels: https://www.google.com/search?q=york...yorkietalk.com What advice did your vet give you?

| Is this a yorkie we are talking about? I ask because it is not uncommon occurance in Chihuahuas....not something we want or like to find in yorkies....how large is the soft spot?...If it is small, there is a possibility that it could still close...the skull has not quit growing and suture lines meeting and sealing....if it has not closed by 8 months, chances are it wont, but bones are still growing and maturing until then. Just like on a human baby, just dont go thumping around on the soft spot.....hopefully, at this age it should be just about half the size of a dime or so....dont write it off, it may still close...bones stop growing at about 8 months old.... |

| Hi I just wanted to chime in my dog had a litter of Chinese Crested puppies and the runt was so small at 12wks he was not able to get his shots he was as tall as a cigarette pack his soft spot did not close till he was about a year old . He is normal size now but I would be very careful with him around kids . If the soft spot is small in size (about pea size or smaller) I wouldn't worry too much about it closing. Your vet should be able to give you a better idea on what he thinks about it also. Wishing you and your baby the best.. |

| Thanks for the feed back. Yes he is a yorkie. No kids to worry about ( I have 3 other Yorkies) No problem keeping him safe at all. This is a new vet to me as I have moved. Little to no advise on what to do. ( I will be finding another vet. I was more interested in the info from the group. The spot is about half the size of a dime about pea size. I was really shock with the as a matter of fact no ifs ans or buts. It NOT going to close answer from the vet. It seemed to me that it could close as he is still growing. He has no symptoms of any Heath issues.

You are right....it could still close. You dont have any small children digging in it or pushing around on it, so you are fine there. I am glad you are considering changing vets....you might ask a vet you are considering, if they have a sizeable Yorkie clientele...that does not guarantee the vet is good with the breed, but at least he may be able to provide knowledgable care....yorkies have differences in some treatments than other breeds, and they really do need a vet that is familiar with Yorkies as a breed. Get some really good books about the breed so YOU are knowledgable about what is good practice for them...... | |

YT 500 Club Member | That was one of the first questions I asked my breeder before we brought Ruger. Home. He said if it wasn't closed he wouldn't be going home with us. Said could be very dangerous with puppies being clumsy. Hope yours does well.
