| Sensitive Tummy So my little man Geno has been having runny poops for the past 2 months. They were due for their bloodwork for heart worm this month so I waited to see the vet until now. He has been eating, drinking, playing, and pottying like normal so I figured it could wait till now to see what was going on. If he wasn't doing all of that, he would have went to the vet immediately. Plus I am a tax accountant so until April 15th, I am all work and I have my fiancé who would have taken him if we agreed that it was bad. Anyways, today I had gone to the vet, Mia just got bloodwork and I made sure Geno saw the vet. Unfortunately our vet has been out for 2 weeks with some kind of bug. They had a substitute vet that was awful. Luckily, their breeder works at my vet so she gave me all the advice she could which was way better than the vet. So they expressed his glands and were able to get a stool sample from him. They tested it and it was negative for worms. The breeder came in and gave me a probiotic and they put him on a chicken and rice diet for 4 days with the probiotic mixed in. I am going tomorrow or monday to get a chicken breast and rice but not sure how to cook it. I guess try to shred it and mix the rice in with it. Mia will have to go on this diet as well since I free feed them. The breeder told me it won't harm her to have the same diet and to give her the probiotic as well. I probably will give them the chicken and rice while I'm at work and when I get home, more chicken and rice but with the probiotic so I can monitor them and make sure Geno is getting the bulk of the probiotic opposed to Mia since she has been fine with her stools. Now after the special diet, I am going to switch their food. They are currently eating Nutrisource Grain Free Seafood Select. She suggested things that aren't too rich and that are strictly for sensitive stomach and to avoid anything with corn in it. I found one called Taste of the Wild Small Breed dry dog food. It helps with sensitive stomach and has a probiotic in it. I was just wondering though what you feed your babies for sensitive stomach and if you had any similar issues. It is hard that I have another one and since I free feed them, she will have to go on the same food as well. I figure if it helps with sensitive stomach, even though she isn't having a problem, it couldn't hurt her to go on it as well. Just hoping they both like it as well.

Sometimes with that kind of problem it is trial and error to find what works. No vomiting I presume?

| I forgot to mention, be careful what you are giving for treats, those can sometimes trigger a problem. Natural balance make a treat biscuit Duck and Potato, if you are goign to that food, go with that. Also I found with some of my yorkies they could not have cooked chicken or kibble made with chicken they seemed sensitive to chicken yet were fine with duck. |

I had a nutritionist tell me more dogs are actually allergic to CHICKEN than anything else we all run scared from!! Thank God I do not have issues with dog food!!! When they get older, they go to the canned RC for seniors, or some just like the senior kibble softened with some warm water.

| Mia is will be 4 in May and Geno will be 5 also in May. I did give them chicken treats one time that made them throw up but these were treats that were made in China and at the time, I was not aware of all the horribleness of giving them treats and food that are made overseas until I came onto here so those treats got thrown away immediately plus obviously they made them sick. I have given them american made treats that are chicken flavored which they did fine with. I give them nutrisource chicken flavored treats as well as lamb and salmon ones. They also get Zuke's mini naturals peanut butter flavored, roasted chicken flavor, and salmon flavored treats. They have no problem with these two chicken flavored treats. He was throwing up a little here and there every now and then, but nothing to the point where he was acting dehydrated. He would continue eating later on and hold it down. Mia occasionally throws up foam but that's if she hasn't eaten and then gets super excited. I have given them chicken and rice before about a year ago. He had his anal glands backed up so they expressed them and told me to put them on a diet of chicken and rice for a few days to help firm his stool back up. They were ok on that diet and didn't have issues with the chicken so I know they'll be fine with that. I know it is going to be some trial and error but I am not a huge fan of constantly switching their dog food so I am hoping this one I bought works. The breeder also told me not to buy big 30lb bags of dog food like I was doing. She told me it can go bad and with it sitting for so long that there's a chance that the bottom of the bag food could not be good anymore. So I got the 5lb bag for now which should probably last maybe a month.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This sounds like IBD or IBS...has that been discussed? Or reflux?

| Scottie had a very sensitive stomach before he turned 1 yrs old. I also read that chicken is an ingredient many pups are allergic to (my personal theory is because of all the hormone injections in the chicken we eat these days). Anyway, whenever he got sick, I cooked him chicken breast and instead of rice I used ground up oatmeal and mixed it with 100% canned pure pumpkin. I was told by my dog trainer at that time that oatmeal was better than rice. He had IBS for over a week once and I had him on that mash for that whole week. I was also given the same advice to buy the smaller 4-5 lb dog food bags. Apparently they become stale after a while even though it's not yet past the expiration date. With the smaller bags, I'm able to rotate flavours from the same kibble company after eat bag. It's so worrisome whenever they get soft poop! How's Geno doing this week? Getting all better?
