| Big challenge! I worry about the impact on backs and shoulders too. It's hard to stop a habit they have already established. Mini stairs and training, or blocking the couches are the only solutions. Neither are fun for humans.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Well until you get her trained not to jump off and use the stairs or a ramp - you can invest $$ 100 or so to get Gel pro mats to put in front of your couches. They are very soft and cushioney. This will at least cushion the impact until you get your dog trained. Alternatively you can short tether her to you when she is on the couch so she can not actually jump off.

| I agree with both the above comments....you MUST stop that jumping or you will be having to do surgery eventually on her.....it may already be too late to avoid surgery eventually. Get a ramp and make her use it...you MUST make her use it.....like my mother used to tell me, "You cant let a 5 lb dog tell YOU how things are to be conducted around here!!!" Unfortunately, she is already in a bad habit, so it will be even harder for you to break that behavior, correct that behavior, and provide an alternative. |
