| Protein in Urine??? I took my 2yr old to the vet for his annual check-up. Last year when I took him they did a quick check and found protein in urine so the vet quickly checked his urine again (strip test) and said there was a low concentration of protein in urine and she was going to send out the sample to the lab to test further. Has anyone had an issue with their babies having protein in urine? Is this normal (as she thinks it is a small amount). I'm just worried it could be something bigger and that he might need medication or something. He is very healthy. Please advise. |

| Protein in the urine can occur if there is blood in the sample (if the sample was taken by a needle). It can also occur because of a urinary tract infection and you could ask to culture the urine to check. Lastly it can be a sign of certain kidney disease (protein losing nephropathy) but that usually occurs in older Yorkies. I would send the urine sample to a lab not for an analysis as a first step not by an in house dip stick. You may also want to make sure that he doesn't have stones. Yorkies can be prone to calcium oxalate stones. I'm sure your vet will have more answers for you with some more testing. Does he have any urinary symptoms? Or was this a standard wellness check of his urine?

| Thanks for your reply. The Vet said that the test came back from the lab and showed very little signs of protein (very small trace amounts). So this is good news. He never had any symptoms. This was just a test bc last year they tested his urine and found it to have some protein but they never sent it out to the lab. He's a healthy 2yr old boy. Picky but healthy |
