| Why are the good foods hidden in the back of the store??? I was shopping at a store near me called mutts and butts, which is a great pet store, they have a ton of stuff and is not a commercial place like petco or petland. I was always shopping in the front area cause thats where i thought the good dog food was. I was buying my yorkie science diet. I read on this board about the healthier brands, ex: merrick, innova, wellness. So i was looking around for these brands to try them out. I wandered all the way in the back past the cat food, and there they were all the natural brands of food. Its upsetting that they put them all the way in the back in the last aisle, and keep the purina, iams, and all the other brands with by-products right in the front. Next time i go in I am going to talk to them about keeping those better brands out more in the front. any ideas why stores do this??? |

| I can't understand the logic in this either since the premium foods cost more so they probably make moreoff of them. maybe ask the store owner. It's a good question. |

| I'm not sure about pet food but with alot of other retail products stores basically have to agree that their products get a certain amount of attention. I.E. Things like Ralph Lauren are right next to the escalator as opposed to the corner of the store near no exits. Merchandising is a huge deal and I bet Iams and Purina at least sweeten the deal with retailers to get their products in the best spots.

| I asked my local Petsmart about it before...I was curious al well. They said that the stuff they sell the most of, being the cheaper products, the put closer to the front for convience of the consumer. THe more expensive stuff goes to the back, as those that are going to buy it, will, no matter that they have to walk to the back of the store. It also was mentioned that it was a merchandising/sales "plan" as if a new consumer comes in to browse and sees all this pricey stuff they might not come back. however, if they see prices comparable to the grocery store, Target, Walmart, etc, they are more likely to come back and look for more items. That's just what they said. I told them I didn't like the hike to the back of the store. I now buy my food at a small specialty store because it is the only place that sells Innova. All their food is in the middle of the store, and there is NO "cheap" stuff. Innova, Wellness, Merrick, Solid Gold and I think that's it. Jen |
