Treats for a toothless boy We've recently adopted our first "foster fail." Beckett is a 6 year old yorkie who came from an Amish puppy mill. He had to have all of his teeth extracted before we adopted him. He isn't interested in canned food at all, so with some help from this forum, he is on Solid Gold Wee Bits dry food and doing just fine with that. But every morning as I leave the house, I give each of the other dogs a treat - a piece of a C.E.T. Veggie Dent chew. Little Beckett comes up looking for his treat, too, and he's breaking my heart! I've been offering him some Stella and Chewey's freeze dried meal toppers, sort of crumbled up, but he just isn't interested in those. And yesterday, he was carrying around one of the veggie dent chews that one of the other dogs hadn't finished. But of course with no teeth, he can't do much with it. Does anyone have any suggestions on a treat for him? I'm so afraid to experiment too much because I don't want to give him something he'll choke on!

I had the same thing with my pom. She just lost all her teeth. I was at Petsmart to get her more food, Blue Buffalo Senior, when I saw the perfect solution to her treats, at least for now. It's Nature Balance Dog Food Rolls. They look like little sausages. They are about 4" long and 1.5" diameter. I got her a chicken and a duck and turkey. She loved her chew bones and cookies but I knew she couldn't have them. I simply cut off a thin slice of the sausage and she could not be happier.

What about a little glob of scrambled egg? That is what I give my toothless ladies that enjoy treats when everyone else get something! They love their scrambled egg piece...have to let them cook a little harder than I normally do, and then cut a nickle sized piece like from an omelet....she loves her little "tasty bite"!

The Stella and Chewy freeze dried treats are really good and crumble easily. The freeze dried raw isn't good unless mixed with water, but these you just give them. Moxie loves them!
